It's some kind of livebearer; probably a black molly.

Looks like a black molly too me, But a closer picture would help with the ID :)

Thanks for posting the picture up matt. looking at it now it certainly does look like a molly. Is it common for these to peck other fish and also try and eat my plants?

They are great to look at but annoying as hell when they start pecking my corys.

Thanks again
Scott

If im honest mate i dont really know about weather or not they can get aggressive.

What i do know though is ideally to stop this they should be kept in a group of 6+ Same with the cories.

Thats all i can say really :(

Hope this helps.

I'll have to add more mollys then or take these 3 to the LFS. I have 4 corys at the minute 2 breeding pairs. I'll add another 2 later today when I call into the LFS.

Thanks for the advice matt

Hi
Yes looks like a black molly. If it a male molly on his own he may get a bit agitated/frustrated. They like to be in groups preferably a mix of males and females (only do this if you want babies though as they are quite rampant). From my experience mollies tend to be very peaceful fish so it be just be that it is on its own.

Certainly looks like a black molly to me! It happens to have it's tail and fins clamped in the picture - this could be just for the moment or it could be that the fish is experiencing some kind of stress it that goes on and on. Perhaps this is a tank and filter that have been running a long time and you've obtained them and continued it working? Mollies do like significantly hard water, that's often what's behind people thinking they need brackish water (there are also different strains of mollies.)

M4tt: you have a badly stressed black molly. It is showing tightly clamped fins which only happens when that type of fish is experiencing either chemical or physical stress. If you live in a soft water part of the world, you may need to add some dissolved minerals to make that a happy fish. The most commonly recommended addition for mineral content is sea salt mix. It raises the pH and of course raises mineral content.

M4tt posted the picture up for me. The photo was taken straight after I added the fish to the tank after traveling for almost 2 hours in a bag. The 3 black mollies have all cheered them selves up and are loving there new home.

They are going to be rehomed once again in 2 weeks time into my 125ltr tank along with 6 females
