welp....ive got an empty 20gallon at the moment and am debating between freshwater and saltwater... might do the 10gallon saltwater and the 20g saltwater but knowing me i think id get a bit lazy in terms of saltwater maintenance... so instead of sw, Im thinking of making one, or both of these smaller tanks a heavily planted forested oddball tanks... still have the urge for more fish regardless of my 65gallon archer tank with African knife fish :b

Anyone have any suggestions? Im thinking of 10 gallon American crayfish tank... or shell dwellers..

but for the 20g (tall tank) was thinking about jumping back into puffers a i havent had one for a while... but then at the same time i kind of hate species only tanks because of limitations...

PLEASE feel free for any comments.. or ideas regarding stock for he 20 and 10g... i know their not really large tanks but its what Ive got.

I'm partial to puffers, and both of your tank sizes would do well for the smaller freshwater species.

I can definitely relate to the woes of species tanks, but both of the puffers I have in mind for you will generally tolerate a few other species, though, as with all puffers, it depends on the individual.

Dwarf puffers have a nearly 100% success rate with otocinclus, but are also becoming more popular to keep with kuhli loaches. Kuhli loaches are another fun "oddball" species, though some don't consider them to be. They are fast little buggers that dwarf puffers are generally unable to catch to nip at, with the added bonus of not having any long and flowing fins that are universal puffer bait.

Figure-8 puffers are often kept with bumble bee gobies. I don't personally care for them, but there are many that do. Plus, brackish tanks are really fun.

Yeah ive had DP's before... didn't really care for them...

10 gallon is definitely going to be a mini reef saltwater tank... but for the 20g...maybe blind cave tetras? i could use plaster to shape cave like structures.
Dont particularly care for figure eights anymore either... are there any sorts of freshwater halfbeaks? My LFS always have these TINY white halfbeaks that look a tad larger than micro rasboras..

Would love a crayfish... but they don't play nice with fish so probably out of the question.

hmmm or...

There is a freshwater halfbeak if I recall properly, I'll look it up. Don't use plaster to make ornaments, it will dissolve rather quickly in water. I'm really just drawing a blank on a good oddball for your tank. I'll keep thinking...

Ok, found this on wrestling halfbeaks...

Yeah when i said plaster i meant stuff like clay... i was in a rush and couldnt remember what one guy made his background out of, blanked and put plaster down lol
