I just got another tank for a bargain :yahoo: Need to pick your brains for stocking ideas.

This is the stocking of my current tanks:

Tank 1 - Community tank with platies, guppies, cories, minnows, shrimps, snails
Tank 2 - blue rams (pair), gold rams (pair), pygmy cories, kuhlis
Tank 3 - Betta, harlequins
Tank 4 - Neon tetras, shrimps
Tank 5 - Dwarf puffer (currently cycling)

The new tank I have will go into our bedroom. Yay, finally fishies next to my bed :D

Dimensions are (inches): 30 wide - 12 deep - 18 high. That should be around 100 l.

I first wanted to make it a fry tank, but looking at it, it seem like a waste for fry only. I will probably get them a smaller one or sell them while they are younger straight out of the community tank (LFS is taking them off me).

So, open to suggestions. What would you do? I love all my fish, but I would like to do something different. I have seen my first 'real' parrot fish at LFS the other day and loved him. But I have no clue about them. Would a parrot fish be ok in this tank? If not, what else?

true parrot fish grow very big. y dont you think about going for shell dwelling africans or something like that. or a temperate tank. golden barbs or bitterlings or something

Thanks so far.

OH likes the idea of barbs. I assume I could get a biggish shoal of them? Anything that goes with them or single species tank?

Mollies are a no no as I have enough livebearers already and I think I'd rather not have another species.

The parrot fish I saw was pink. So I reckon it's a 'fake' one as in not true.

Lloyd, sorry I don't know too many fish yet, could you give ideas of shell dwelling africans? Sounds interesting.

Thanks again, am excited about my newest addition.

Right, I have just youtubed shell dwelling cichlids and me and OH both love the idea of them. Looks great, totally different to the other tanks.

So, can I please have more info on those please? How many could go into those 100 l? Species names so I can research them? Any info appreciated.

im no expert to be honest. you should post in the african cichlids section :good:

No worries, thanks so much for pointing me into that direction though. We have been looking at shell dwelling cichlid tanks yesterday and it is definitely what we want. It is totally different to what we have, and they look great. Without you we wouldn't have known about them, so thanks again :)

Have got a few specific questions now, but will post in the cichlid section later to get them answered. Might even start my first journal *excited much*.

Hmmm, now i know how you can read the signs of getting obsessed! :D

He he he, I have seen your other message first. I think we are both obsessed now. I blame this forum! :fun: I was happy with one little tank until I saw all those beautiful fishies out there. And those beautiful tank pictures everywhere are not helpful. It's a good job I don't have a social life so I can watch my fish for hours every day

Hand me over the award for the biggest idiot in the world. I (insert swear word) broke it! Split right across the middle from one side to the other. That's £15 wasted then

Back to the drawing board tank wise, but have done measurements of available space again and will probably go for something wider and less height now that I have decided to get some shellies.

If I was more bendy I would kick myself up the bottom.

Danele! (And other nosey people reading)

I just got a new one from a local fishkeeper's group. Will pick it up tonight. And the best is - it's even bigger. 36 x 12 x 18! Woohoo! Projcect shellies can commence B-)
