I have a 50g with 2x39w T5 bulbs, but no CO2.

I have Anubias Nana and some new Amazon Sword. I had Swords before and they tend to go browny/transparent in time. Anything I can do to prevent this?

Oh and I also recently added some Java Moss.

I have had success with Nymphaea bulbs before, so will probably get another of these.

Looking for suggestions as to a plant that grows fairly large to go at the back, as want to eventually replace my two silk plants.

Would I be able to grow any kind of grass or crypts in my tank?

you really need to think about running C02 with this tank. Algae will become a problem in the tank without.

As for the other questions, aponogeton ulvaceus makes a great backgound plant and is an really easy plant. Most crypt will grow in that tank, but may get algae on them without c02 and dwarf hairgrass will also be easy to grow, but again its an alfae magnet under stong light.

Thanks. I'll look that plant up.

I did have a little algae before in my old house, but haven't had any problems *yet* here. Doesn't seem to get direct sunlight on the tanks.

I'm having a look at the crypts as well.

Is there anything that can be done to avoid the algae other than CO2? Can't afford it

Ah, need to add I have very hard water and my tank's temperature is 26c.

Looked up the aponogeton ulvaceus and it was very expensive, so went with:

5 x Cryptocoryne Wendtii
5 x Hygrophillia Difformis
1 x Salvinia Auriculata (will put a bit in my Betta's tank as well)
1 x Nymphea Maculata (N. Zenkeri)

Hopefully I won't kill it all!

Reeeeeally regret getting rid of my other plants now :( Oh well.
