I would like to put some plants in to my 360l discus tank.
I'm not going to use CO2, but was wondering if anyone can tell me what plants will do well without it.
I am thinking of trying a riccia or java moss carpet, but i have been told that java moss would probably work better.
All i have in there at the moment is some java fern still in the pots which i may remove..and some floating plants which i don't know the name of as i was given them for free, heres a pic of some of them in my fry tank...

I may get rid of these in the discus tank though, as they are just making a clump at 1 side of the tank, i might add amazon frogbit instead..

Amy do you plan on using any liquid ferts? I can give you one piece of advice and thats if you go for plants with small leaves and they dont survive you'll end up chasing the small leaves all around the tank as they disintegrate.
Hygrophila polysperma seems to be an ideal plant to start with. :good:

Okay thanks :)
I'm thinking of using the tablets, maybe the flourish excel but still not sure.

Flourish excel is a liquid carbon, not a fertiliser. The normal flourish is a plant fert, but I'm not sure how good it is as I've never used it. I've always used TPN+ and found it to be very good. Good "beginnerish" plants would be things like amazon swords, cabomba, java moss, crypts, java fern (although this and the moss need to be attached to a rock or wood to grow) and vallis, although some people find vallis harder to grow than others  If it likes your water, it'll grow like crazy. If it doesn't, it will just refuse to grow lol.

I agree ^

If you're getting either tabs or liquid ferts, I would go with liquid ferts as they are much more effective and are only really meant for using in addition to liquid ferts (Like TPN+).

Got to be careful with discus tanks though, i assume discus eat a lot of plants because they seem to require quite specific plants.
