My tank just now has huge 2 foot high amazon swords at the back, an attempt at a carpet and some java moss on some wood.

The trouble is the swords just take over! They are so busy it really takes up so much of my tank! I have to cut out loads each week and its still taking up so much of the tank.

I move house in two weeks, so am going to take that time to reshape. My tank will be low tech - no frets, no CO2 and normal lighting levels. So the base will be sand (ditching the carpet). But i'd like ideas for what plants i can put in to give some more colour, other than green! They should grow well in low tech, and easy to maintain.

What i'd prefer is a clear centre, but rising up to the back corners. I want lots of colour and variation in plants! That way i can have loads of plants, all at different heights, and it won't take out too much swimming room

Also, where is best to buy? Ebay?

Thanks :)

I don't know which plants would be best but The Last Trading Post on Ebay do really cheap bundles of plants. I bought a 50pack and had quite a variety of different plants from Red Ludwigia to Vallis and Anubias Barteri amongst others. All arrived in 2 days and didnt have a dead or non aquatic plant in sight.

Very good value for money IMO, and now I have a basis to start with in my tank I can now order individual plants that I think will fit in like Crypts and things.

Hope this helps?

So here are some tanks i think look cool....what plants would let me do something like this?

Also, how do i build up the height? Or is that just tall plants?

ooh plants alive seems good price wise! a collection for 48" tank is only £20! Cant get too much....surely! And no photos anywhere on the website is a bit disappointing. I'll call them when the time comes

Alot of members on here have used them mate. They're great plants and aren't stingy iirc.
