Ideal Tank/betta Bowl Sizes

Dude, you just need to get rid of your fish. The only thing you're doing is making up bull#### excuses to make yourself feel better about treating your fish like crap. Every post you have made has indicated that you are no more capable of taking care of a fish as a child is capable of rocket science. You need to man up and take care of your animals like you have half a brain, or get rid of them.

The only thing you're doing is prolonging their suffering and misery. It's not 'cool' or 'hip' to keep your fish in such horrid conditions. You've made it more than perfectly clear that you're not mature enough to handle the care of a living animal.

Get a larger tank for your fish or don't keep them. There's no sense in it, unless you get some sick sadistic glee out of the suffering and ill treatment of your pets.

Simply put, buy them bigger tanks, or please don't keep them.

- secondly, what you define as humane and what i define as humane are obviosuly very different.... every person is different and like i said before, not every condition applies to everyone... so stop being so arrogant!

Better to be arogant and have healthy animals then to be completely ignorant

-lastly.... since everyone is so good at getting angry at me on this thread about how i "mistreat" a fish... let me ask you, how long have u all owned your fish?

I have been keeping fish for the past 6 years, my first fish was a betta and I have been keeping them ever sense. I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning with them, and cost the poor creatures their lives. I hate to see that happen to anyone...

and btw.... fish are not animals.... and if you cant tell the difference, then i suggest that this pointless discussion stop....

That makes no sense. Fish are living creatures, they feel pain, they express happiness, they eat, breathe, and live just like any other creature. But just because they're fish they dont deserve the same respect? I feel sorry for your fish

i dont think any of you have the right to force your ideas and opinions on other and i dont think that you should be unkind to someone who doesn't agree with you! stop treating another human being worse than you treat your precious fish!

I don't know about the other people on here, but I prefer animals over people most of the time. No ones forcing anything on you, we're all simply looking out for your fish. Something you hould try doing once in awhile.

I couldn't agree more! :good: :good: :good:

Actually, you will find many keepers with fish going on 1+ years. I've been keeping fish since *April of '06.* I've been keeping one of my bettas for 9 months, and I've had bettas I've kept for over a year. We're trying to help you, but apparently, you don't want it. But the way you put it... First they are kept in that tank all the time, then only sometimes, and now you're upgrading? This is a fish forum, we love our fish here, and if you don't love your fish, why'd you join?

Hmm.. Are they fungi? Nope. Protists? Nada. Monerans? Not since I've checked! Plants? They don't look like it. So, what, per say, are they? Unicorns?

You asked for advice and as far as i can see people have given their advice, they have clearly stated that the wine glass is way to small, bettas are beautiful fish that is why people decide to keep them,in a container that small how can its beauty been seen properly? Its simple it can't
Btw i have been breeding fish for 8 years and if you have had fish before then you should know better,it just takes common sense to realise that it needs more room and yes i would say you are being cruel to the fish all it takes is a bigger tank and both you and your fish will be happier

Your betta is swimming in its own faeceas!!
slowly polluting its body and will die of deseases!!

i have had other fish before.... i've had livebearers for over 10 years... i just started out with bettas so can everyone please just get off my case? i asked cause i wanted to know.. obviously what i thought was appropriate were not... many of my friends who have owned bettas have never really kept them in 1 gallons and their fish lived long long lives...... so how was i supposed to know any different??

and no one seems to be able to explain to me how long betta's live

i had a couple bettas live in 2.5 galon tanks. a mere 5"x12"x8". those fish lived for 3-4 year

you say all you did was ask for peoples opinion, and from what i can see people havegiven you thier opinion. you instantly got defensive, and argued thier opinions. why you have done this im not sure, nor do i care. but if you come onto a fish enthusiast forum looking for opinions, and get the same answer from everybody maybe you should reconsider your own thought processes.

Also earlier in this post you asked how long bettas live? you have mentioned you have 2 bettas, but there are 3 shown in your pictures. can i assume that the other one died recently? how long had you had him? do you know what caused his death?

** in response to the number of betta's i have.... my first betta that i ever got... was killed by my friend who thought she knew what she was doing.... so i had to get a new one... b/c losing the first one was hard enough....**

A wine glass...omg...how to you clean the water, how do you monitor ammonia, nitrate etc. levels? What about a heater or a filter? My betta is in a 3g tank...and I'm going to get him a 7 gallon tank.

For UK people,
I found 4 litre bowls for only £1.99......in wilkinsons!!!
Perfect for anyone with limited room but a passion for bettas, in my terms I'd have to add heat too cos it's too cold here to leave a betta without! :good:

Also 11 litre pet carrier type tanks for only £4.99 not just good for bettas but for hospital/quarantine or breeding tanks for some smaller fish :)

i posted something in another thread.... but i'm going out to get something larger and new for both of my boys..... i had them in something small as a temporary means until i could get something bigger....i should hopefully return with something larger and pretty for them to live in

I'm sure you'll be able to find something!
Even goldfish bowls will do, mermaidmel who breeds bettas, I think a few of her boys lived in bowls.
Good luck finding them some nice houses!!!

yea thanks :) we'll see how the hunt goes! there arent many places to buy things like large fish bowls where i live but i'm sure i can find something.... even if it's an overly large flower vase :p altho i really hope that is big enough....

in any case... i might have to search a little farther if need be
