i seen this cichlid in the petstore but i cant remember his name.
i know for certain the first part of his name was green something and the second
part of his name began with an s. he looks a bit like a discuss and he has big beady eyes.
i was going to get my cousin it but i thought i may ask you guys about it.
any ID please that would be freat

Green severum. Gets to 10", needs a huge tank.

well the one i seen today must have been a baby as it was only about 2" but isnt it
true if you get the fish whilst its small it will only grow so much before it stops as there will not be enough
room for it to grow any more.
has anyone got more info on them plz.

Yes thats called stunting, the equivalent of placing you in a box when you were a child, a box thats not big enough for a fully grown adult and keeping you in it for life. Also known as cruel torture. It wont go in your 12.5 gal im afraid

It's too big for either of those tanks, and quite frankly I think people are fed up of telling you so.

yes there is a black knife fish why you ask. my firemouth sometimes gets bullied by him.

Green severums need a tank of AT LEAST 55g.

Did you say you have a ghost knife and firemouth in a 12g tank?

ive got a green severum. just for keeps sake im taking him back when he gets big.

right hers the full truth im thinking about getting a much larger tank but i want a try of the big
fishies first. the woman in the lfs said i can take them back when they get too big.
im sorry i lied. and no offence but if all you aquatists stick to that 1" fish for every 1 gallon your tanks
must look empty and very boaring. my fish i can tell they are happy but according to you guys my tank is
overcrouded. its no were near. every fish has pleanty of space to swim freely. im sorry to say
but you guys need to stop being so generous giving your fish lots of space. aslong as you look
after them they will always be happy. (unless there is a 1.6ft fish in a 2ft tank.
the fish in every fish store there must be atleast 30 in each tank and they can remain there for weeks
mabee even months. all my fish get along well and look at the variety i have a black knife with a fire mouth.
the only fish which is finding it hard to to get allong with other fish is the green severum. but that may bee because he is new. now plz lets drop this subject ive told you all the truth now can some people give me some info on a green

1) Green sevs need 55 gals at least

2) they have a potential size of 8-10 inches

this is advice

take it back, and the BGK, if that survives the sevs harassment then it will soon outgrow that tank you have it in and decimate your small fish population along the way. Take back the pleco

there is a room for you in a bodybag but i dont think you would be comfortable in it for any length of time do you?

Its for the benefit of the fish that you are being told these things.
I dont understand why you go out and buy fish totally unsuitable for your tank and expect us to agree with you.
It aint going to happen.

You should always research any fish you buy first, and i would like to know which lfs shop you use so others are warned not to use it.

We have fish profiles at the top of the forum and indeed in the cichlid areas.

heres the biggies. a black knife a firemouth a pictus cat and a green severum and a common plec hes only a baby
though but i know how big they can get. sorry once again but if i know my fish arnt happy then i will do something about it but at the mo everything seems to be going fine
