ermmm.... im probably way off the mark but they look like they could be one of the Lamprologus species... maybe Lamprologus ocellatus.... these are Lake Tang shelldwelling cichlids tho... somebody else could probably give u a better idea.... try googling the name in the image section xx

I'd be very doubtful if they were lamprologus ocellatus. They look like a bigger species. How big are they?

They are about 1 3/4" long. I can say that they are definately Lake Malawi Cichlids, I juts dont know which ones. I just hope that are not hybrids  , as I was so sure in the beginning they were what I was sold them as!

The 1st 2 pics are definately haps but not sure which, freddyk will answer that i'm sure. The 3rd pic is a female Aulonocara but as most of them look very similar, again not sure of exact species.

Well its not what it says it is..

This is the Ahli

I dont know what the fish you have is.. it might be a hybrid.. but its deffernatly a hap

I hope this helps.

i dont know what the second fish is..

good luck

#1 is likely a Sciaenochromis Fryeri crossed with a Aulonocara species

#2 is a Aulonocara species, unidentifiable at that age

It really is very strange!! When I bought the 2 "supposed" Haplochromis Ahli, they were very blue, and had the white band fron nose to behind the dorsal fin. They change colour througout the day! In the morning they are a very dark blue, but later on in the day they become almost grey!

Al water peramaters are fine, and I have never seen them bullied (but then you never know what goes on behind closed doors!).

The first two pics do look like Ahli's and when they go light they're being stressed out. If the so called Aulonocara is in the same tank it might be bullying them. Since, I don't know what they look like when first awake they could be girls or a pair of subordinate males. The Aulonocara(?) does have the dominant colours or a bad pic?

Normally Fryeri (hap ahli) don't show egg spots, but just a solid orange/red anal fin. But it looks like there is one location that does, not sure. Its shape and color does look right.

Well, my supposed Haplochromis Ahli seem to have coloured up in the last week. Perhaps they are Ahli after all. Hope someone can give a definite id now I have better pics and you can see the colours.
