Id Fish And Suggestions For Additions

Greetings all,

OK need some recommendations for a few more additional fish for my 20 US gallon tank. Also need a Fish ID'd so I can get the best suggestions possible to go with what I have (I cannot find him @ Petsmart where I got him to identify him). Have to admit I liked the look of him, the girl told me he'd be fine in my tank so I got him (I did make sure to read the card that said he'd get 3-4 inches and not 13-14in ).

ID FISH

Along with him I have:

3 Skirt Tetra
2 Mickey Mouse Platy
2 mystery snails
1 Gourami - (pretty sure thats what he is)
1 Bamboo shrimp

My wife wants something colorful so any suggestions on #1 how many more fish I can safely get and #2 suggestions on some common colorful fish I can get that would get along with the above.

I have smooth 1/4-1/2 inch? stone, 2 java ferns and a moss ball in the tank (and other non organic hiding places not worth mentioning).

Well I could be wrong (not used to seeing one in that position) but that looks like a young Opaline Gourami to me (the green version of the Trichogaster trichopterus of which there is the original 3-spot and the blue and gold varieties as well.)

You'll need to fill out the skirts to 6 fish, their minimum. Your overall stocking capacity will then be tight for another shoal. If you have the patience to wait until the tank is about 4-6 months mature, cardinal or neon tetras would add color but have small body mass and so would fit.

Thanks for the reply, yes I thought about getting 3 more Skirts after reading these boards; they don't really school until the light goes out, then they are inseparable (safety in size appearance I guess). Two did pick on one but he grew FAST so I don't see anyone picking on each other, (no ripped fins/constant chasing yet) but yes I will get 3 more and wait.

So with that (3 more Skirts) I can only fit what 2 more neon's? (like the look of them).

neons don't count for their full length, so you could easily fit their 6 minimum
