I have a 120 gallon tank with two turquise discus and three uaru. I have had them for over six months. I can't seem to get rid of my ick. I used a prodcut by jungle aquariums, which turned out to be a waste of money. I am currently using Mardel's coppersafe. I have used it in the past with larger cichlids and they recovered in a few days. They have been like this for over week now, and I haven't been able to get rid ofit. here are my Statistics. They currently live in 80 degrees F. water, and 6.5 PH. My Nitrates are at o ppm (mg/L), Nitrites are at about 0 ppm (mg/L), and my ammonia levels are a little above 0 ppm (mg/L). I cnage my approximately once a week. If anyone has any information it will be greatly appreciated.

The only ick treatment I will use now is Protozin by Waterlife, I've experienced 100% success with this :good:

treatment of a preparation of methylene blue, often does the trick, but you need to treat the tank several time, as the bug is only vulnerable in it free swimming form, you can't cure a fish with ick. the bug only has a short life cycle about seven days or so. ans you need to kill it as it goes from fish to fish. if you treat over a period of time say two week. dose your tank, leave it a day or so then do a 50% or more water change. dose the tank six or seven days later, and follow the above instructions. do this one more time, again following the same instructions. if all has gone well you should be there. if you wish there would be no harm in adding a uv unit, during the treatment. more power to the bug killers!!

hope this helps BoB

NOX-Ick or any other product with Malachite Green as the active ingrediant. Usually say's 1 drop per gallon for 3 days; Go longer ,I usually go 5 to 9 days. Remove carbon from filter; It will remove the Malachite and many other meds. Wait several days after ick is gone before you remove meds and add carbon.
Methline blue may work but it will stain some plastics and the sil;icone sealant on your aquarium.

fair point. formalin and salt are also treatments for this. formalin is also recommended by some to be used with Malachite green.

If it has white spots anywhere on it's body. When fish get this disease they scrape themselves against rocks. If you see any white spots, fungus or other problems it should be dealt with straight away, especially with a fish such as Discus

As for the urua's stressing the Discus and the Discus being stressed with only two of them i would say it is unlikely,i have 2 discus together and although shy occasionally they are no way stressed & they are with CAE and Rainbow fish.Although uraus are much more hardy and a bit more aggresive 120gal should be plentyful for each to get out of each others way...Still it is very possible.

put the temperture up to 30deg aswell

that's the cause of your problems, ammonia should be 0 at all times, especially with delicate fish like discus. if the tank is 6 months old then your filter is not good enough for the bio load so you need to upgrade it.

while you do need to treat the disease you'll fidn you keep getting problems until you address the root cause of it.

Your supposed to raise temps when fish have ick-
Treatment: Raise water temperature

Medicate for 10-14 days

Reduce medication when treating scaleless fish

Discontinue carbon filtration during treatment

Perform water changes between treatments

put the temperture up to 30deg aswell

Yeh,higher temps seem to slow white spot down

doesn't it speed it up?

quite right, :good: :good: the higher temp, speeds up the life cycle of the bug, speeding up the meds.

0O i c :good:  .I was thinking you ment don't raise the temps
