Hi all,
ive had my 90 gallon up and running for over a year and everything was going grand... until i rescued a couple of black widows from my neighbours tank. i ahd them in my spare tank for 2 weeks and thought they were clean and healthly. however after 4-5 days in my main tank a few fish started to show signs of fin rot which i treated 2 days ago with the meds from my lfs. it seemed to work until this morning when i noticed the dreaded ich has started to appear on a few fish and the water has got more cloudy white as the day goes on.
Quite a few fish have started to rub against the gravel so i need to get this sorted asap..
so... should i forget the meds, add salt up the temp and do water changes, this seems to be the best course of action but the cloudy water has me doubting a bit.
any advice welcome, this is the first outbreak of disease ive had and i really want to get it sorted( that'll teach me for taking in fish from a badly maintained tank..
thanks in advance

go for it. what fish do you have? ich treatments vary if you have scaleless fish and invertabrates so it makes a huge difference. for now though, bring temp up to 82.

The salt/temperature treatment is not reliable, I would go for one of the proprietary malachite green/formalin meds

The cloudy water has me wondering. With ich and fin rot you would not automatically get cloudy water. Do you test your water with a good liquid test kit? What are your stats for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and Ph? What is your maintenance regime?

Here are two good reads on Ich. Remember to treat the whole tank and don't stop early just because you don't see the white spots. Some people have had good results with heat and salt. It did not work for me. So I used above, the formalin/malachite green medication. Here are two good sources to read on ich.

when i get ich, i use heat, salt and meds, but you need to be sure your fish are tolerant.

thanks for the replies,
ive gone with the heat and salt method and it seems to be doing the trick.. fingers crossed

hope that works for you. if you find it doesnt, you can do all 3 treatments. i think you can also do salt baths.
