SO my tank had ick for about 3 days before I noticed any white dots. I did notice my fish were acting funny but never saw dots till the 3rd day. I started treatment with Ick cure the Malachite Green. I have been treating the tank for almost 2 weeks now and it is under control but not totally gone. I am getting really annoyed. I have the temp at 82 F. I treat the tank everyday when I get up. with the amount the bottle says to put in. I have done a few water changes I am doing one tomorrow.

I have treated ick before with no problem but it was only one fish I was treating. With this tank it's like the Ick is moving from fish to fish. Not all of them have it only 3 do and some never got it at all. Should I try the salt? or is there a better med I can use. I got some Ick cure today but it is pretty much the same stuff. All the med I find for Ick has Malachite Green in it. Was looking for some copper bases meds and could not find any.

I am getting really frustrated I feel like it i will never go away. grrrrr what am I doing wrong?

Are you sure it's Ich?

YES. Tiny white dots that look like salt specks, Make the fish itch, they come and go. one day I will see one fish with a speck on his head a few days later it's gone because it fell off. It's like the stuff is not killing them during the free swimming time. Or it is killing some but not all.

What else could it be. What other illness looks like little specks of salt that make fish itch? It's not fungus it is not fuzzy or any color it's not growing or moving or dangling. Its little white specks.

What media do you have in the filter? remember to take out any carbon.

Also, are you applying medication then doing a waterchange? as this will dilute the med

The carbon has been out the whole time. I have just the sponge and those little clay like stuff. No I am not doing water changes after I medicate I do them right before. Fresh water in then the meds.

I think I should do more then one treatment a day. Because once a day is not working. It says you can treat up to 3 times a day. I don't put it in at the same time everyday. Some times I do it at 10:00am or 1:00pm But that should not effect it. I am going to do a water change tomorrow then add the Rid Ich+ I got today. We will see if that works better then the QuICK Cure I was using before.

OK so this time I'm not messing around. I am going to do a 25% water change every time before I add any medication to the fish. I'm going to try Rid Ich this time around too. For the first 2 days the directions say I can treat them ever 12 hours for stubborn cases. This better work.

Are you doing a thorough gravel vac when you water change also?

Yes I am using the vacuum. I am going to do a 25% water changes every time before I teat the tank. before I only did like 2 water changes because the directions said not to. I am using different stuff and I am just going to do water changes more. If the stuff does not kill them at least I will get some of the free swimmers out with water changes you know. I am going to treat every 12 hours the direction say its ok to do for stubborn cases. I will do that for 2 days. Then do the normal one treatment for the rest with water changes.

It's not getting worst and its not bad is is just lingering. The fish that have it only have 2 dots and only 2 or 3 of the fish have it. It is so annoying.

We will see if more often water changes will help. The meds are not effecting my Bio filter I checked my water today and the ammonia and nitrites are all good.

Update. :good:

So I have been doing regular water changes. All spots are gone but I am going to keep treating for a few more days to make sure.

First day of new treatment I did a 50% water change. Then I treated them with Rid Ich. Waiting 12 hours and treated again. Second day I did a 25 % water change and treated them once. The third day I did not do a water change just treated them once. Today I did a 25 % water change and treated the tank.

I just had to switch up my game plan and attach. I did how ever lose one fish. I had noticed he was very stressed from getting a little big of ick and then being harassed by the other male ram. I am pretty sure due to stress from the other fish then me moving him to the hospital tank. He had a weakened immune system and then developed a secondary infection. Once I had him in the hospital tank I noticed he looking like he had something worst then just ick. I treated him for ick and he seemed to be doing ok. But then one morning he was dead. :-(

None of my other fish are sick all the spots are gone. They all look great and only a few of the fish in the tank ever got ich. It did not infect them all in fact only my oto, BN (who bright the ich in) 3 rasboras, and one ram had signs of it. The 3 Bettas, Clown pleco, tough Ram, and the 4 other rasboras never got it.

I'm really bummed out about my ram. I still have the tough ram he is fine. I am going to be looking for a little girl friend for him as soon.

PS. I went back to the store where I had bought my BN that started the ich in my tank. I looked at the tank where the others were. ALL HAVE MANY SPOTS on them. It looks bad I can not believe it. This store is normal good with their fish. I wanted to say something but I kept my mouth shut and shook my head.
