hi all. all but one of my fish has been wiped out by ich in my tank, whats remaining is a firefish goby 1 frogspawn coral and 1 condylactis coral. Oddly enough, my firefish goby is somewhat.. immune to ich, i can never spot any white dots on it.

i would like to get rid of ich so i can start over again... sigh.. what is the best thing to do right now? put the 3 remaining creatures in QT and use hyposalinity or connect a UV to my tank.

PS. will a UV connected to my tank completely destroy ich? cause i read some posts where people dont find UV's that useful.. (not sure why)

thanks

would be tempted to go your first path myself..they parasite will die off in these conditions and have no host to survive on....uv can be very hit and miss.

Your coral shouldn't be affected by ich, right?

I'm doing the hypo salinity thing in quarantine right now with my clowns.

Just run your DT fallow (no fish) for a month until the ich cycle is over.

k, got another question, if i raise the temperature higher, will it speed up ich's cycle so i dont have to wait 6 week before putting fish back in?

thanks

Raise it up to about 80f. That will be fine to speed up the process and shouldn't affect your corals at all.

80f? right now my tank is 87f lol.. this summer is extremely hot!

If the firefish has proven himself to be ich-resistant, I would quarantine him but would NOT treat him. Corals can stay in the display tank as they're unaffected by ich. I'd leave the display tank without fish for 8 weeks and consider looking on keeping yourself interested with corals during that QT period. Once the 8 weeks is up, re-introduce the firefish.
