Hi at first I thought this was Ich/Ick maybe it is , I`ve only seen it on 2 fish out of 14 (Malawi Cichlids/Mbuna) white specks around the face and on one particular fish the spots were bigger and on the top of the fish where it meets the dorsal fin and are still there despite 2 weeks of treatment, salt, raised temp the Interpet Treatment and recentely The Waterlife treatment Protozin.
The spots actually went virtually but have come back now just on one fish I can see, I`m getting really concerned. Also there is a red sore on it`s side which looks like a scale is missing I presumed this was from flicking but I`m worried it could be HITH as I`ve got a lot of rocks which should be ok but you never know.
Water Params are fine. PH 8.3 gh/kh 16/18 A=0 Nitrite =0 Nitrate <15
I`ve got a UV steriliser which was off when the Ich was first noticed and has been throughout the meds but is back on now, I`m thinking raise the temp up to 86-88 and dose with a higher concentratiion of salt and obviously more aeration .

The fish`s appetite and behaviour is normal (even spawned with the female who is now holding)
I`m not sure if I`ve got some resistant strain or not ?
any help appreciated.

This was a picture from the 23rd September

Hole in the head start off as pitting are the spots fluffy, the sore is it a pink or red colour with a circling of dead skin around it.
Tank size in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
And water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

The spots that were bigger did they have a circling of red around them, or a spot in the centre.

Right the white spots came first and one of them at the moment looks like it`s protruding like a volcano effect below it with the tip being the white spot (does that make sense?) I`m not sure I`d say fluffy though. I`d say like a human zit (white head) !!

Tank is 264 litres

Ammonia 0

Nitrite 0

Nitrate varies between water changes from 5- 15ish

Ph 8.3

KH 18

GH 14

13 African Cichlids see Avatar

7 Petricola

Most fish are semi adult or juvies

This started after I added some new fish , I`ve since been back and they had a whitespot cure on top the tank.

appreciate your help.

EDIT the sore is small- ish exactly the size of one scale like it`s been removed. definitely pink I wouldn`t neccessarily say dead skin around it no.

The spots that were bigger were the same no rede marks.

The pimple does it have anything white sticking out of it.

I`ve read about some strain of White spot on the Cichlid-Forum Libary that can miss the 2nd stage and thus reproduces on the same fish which is almost impossible to eliminate, I`m sure I`m jumpijng to conclusions here but it`s weird how just this guy has it mainly under his chin and along the body where it meets the dorsal.

I take it this does not sound like white spot then ?

Whitespot looks like grains of salt on a fish.
Let me get you some more info.

It dosn't sound like hole in the head, to be honest i would try a bacterial med as the spots are too big for whitespot.
Sometimes you can get spots with things sticking out of them and thats a parasite.

It`s strange one of my other fish had loads of much smaller spots and they have gone and this fish in between the first and 2nd photos looked to have almost got rid of teh spots completely but now they are back , I did treat with Octozin as well at one stage because it`s all I had in .

The pics of whitespot show more of a "covering" but these are more concentrated in one area I`d say.

I`ll try and get a better pic in the morning.

Thanks again for your help.

Try and blown the pics up.

Will do in the morning . I can blow these up a little but I doubt it will help much but I`ll do it anyway.

Look like a columnaris spot to me, can see abit of fluff on the mouth is this correct.

Not sure but now you mention it I`ve seen that on another fish but presumed it had been caused by fighting which it had being doing.
Sort of white round the mouth yes. not sure about fluffy though.
