Ich And Fin Rot

I did the water tests last night and the ammonia was through the roof. I guess the tank couldn't handle five sick fish. I did a 40% water change, and immediately after that, the guppy started swimming around again. Since the tetras died I haven't treated for ich. The guppy never got the ich, so I wasn't sure if I should still be treating the tank for it.

If one fish has whitespot you have to treat the whole tank.
Did you increase aeration in the tank.

Aquarium (rock) salt will cure Ich as well. The parasites can't withstand the osmotic pressure change. Raising temp to 80F speeds up the lifecycle of the parasite. Increase aeration to improve the oxygen saturation of the water as the higher temp reduces the water's ability to hold oxygen.

Yes, I increased the aeration of the tank, and put a bit of aquarium salt in when the neons were alive, but not much. The guppy has still not shown signs of ich or fin rot, though I did put a half dose of QuICK Cure in yesterday. But since I did the water change he is not lethargic, but very active, like he was before the neons got sick.

Did you use the full dose as some fish can't handle full dose, but usually guppys are ok with full dose its more the scaless fish.
You are only meant to use half dose with neon tetra's.
