Ok i have a 2 ft tank, does anyone know the amount opf fish i can fit comfortably in it? ATM i have 2 yabbies, 2 green terrors, two tiger barbs (which im gettin rid of soon), two electric yellows, two cobalt blue, two princess cichlids and one BGKF, all fish are no bigger than 6 cms including BGKF, i am going to get rid of the tiger barbs and im thinking of gettin two albino sharks and my mate is breeding plecos which ill also have two of. is that to many ffish???

WOW..... there are realy a lot of in the tank, I think that you are over crowding the tank with all those fishes....... Green terrors are also in the tank, you are on your way to a big problem now!! Green terrors are not called GREEN "TERRORS" for helping old ladies acrossing the street!! and those african cichlids are a bad combination when there tank is not a mbuna/malawi or tanganieka community tank. I suggest that you stop bringing new fishes to this tank and remove some of them. I'm glad that I don't live in that tank!!

At adult sizes even with ONLY ONE pleco , thats already WAAAAY to many fish per inch for one 2 ft tank. please really consider what you've got in there at the moment aswell. you've got to consider their adult sizes. albino sharks also get big aswell.

I know some guys on here will probably say it's not very accurate but it's helped me out. i've rehomed 8 of my fish lately and im still overstocked apparently. but i will be getting a much bigger tank in the next 3 months. i think this will help you grasp an idea of fish suitablility.

righttt... well they all seem to be gettin along fine, they stick to themselves i sit n watch themalot and there doesnt seem to be any problems.. this tank is second hand and the owner befvore me had something like 20 fish in there,
so why is twelve suck a bad number??


i have also been told fish only grow to the size of the tank they are living?

Those fish will eventually kill eachother as they mature. They are only fine at the mo because they are still young.

They will also overload the biofilter meaning they will eventualy die due to ammonia poisoning if they don't physically kill one another first.

And you can't judge your tank by the number of fish.

For example 20 neons is not the same as 20 Oscar fish.

It is the number AND more importantly the type of fish that is the problem here.
NONE of the fish in your tank are suitable for a tank that size.

And so what if fish do only grow to the size of their tank (which isn't strictly true), is it fair for you to stunt there growth? I personally don't think it is.
If you tank is 2ft long, you should keep fish that can grow to full size in a 2ft tank. Not buy big fish knowing that 'they will only grow as big as the tank anyways'.

it doesnt matter whether they get along. point being it's not fair on them to have so little space each. their rate of growth will also be stunted, not to mention too many fish = too much waste, making potential for illness = [ the fish are gonna grow and there adult sizes wont leave them space in the tank. so they may well be fine now, but they might not be later on.

the owner before you was obviously not in the know ref stocking levels and he shouldnt have had that many fish in their.

no, no joshi..... don't get us wrong!! we might seem a little rough...... I personnaly had got through this, whn they started attacking like batch of wolves!! we care to give an advice coz we want you and your fishes to be happy and comfortable!! don't get at us....SORRY.

No oneis trying to be horrible, everyone is just trying to advise you on what is best for your fish and your tank. Most advise given is trustworthy here, but may clash with what someone at your LSF has told you, Fish stores are looking out for their pockets (generallyspeaking) everyone here is looking outfor youand your tank

I simply answered your question with facts. It seems it might be more that you don't like the facts and therefore have taken it as some sort of attack. It isn't.
I'm only telling you what will happen because we've seen it here 101 times before.

No one is judging you, if you didn't know any better then...well how could you have done anything different?
But now, with the info above, you do know better.
