I want to breed something in a 10g?

What other tanks do you have (growout and community)? If none, then I would suggest only livebearers, since you would have no place to move the adults.

If you can get a growout tank of about 20 gallons or so, you could breed anabantoids and rams, for sure. There are no doubt others, none come to mind now, though.

If you have a 5 and a 10 you can breed honey gouramies. You can breed and raise the babies in the 10 and the adults can live in the 5 with lots of hiding places like floating plants and just generaly other plants and stuff :p - they don't need to be real - just pleniful so the female can get away from the more aggressive male. If he is too aggressive you can get another female to spread the aggression out but idealy you should only keep the two as 5 gallons is the absolute minnimum.

Obviously, better options are livebearers - that includes guppies and swords and platies. Mollies are also an option but considering they get to 4 inches a trio shouldn't realy be housed in anything less than 15 gallons...

If your up fora challenge, you could breed rams or apistos in there, but youwould need at least one more tank ofa similar size to keep the male and fry seperateif the female is a husband beater.

Shouldn't that be the other way around? Usually with apistos the male is a wife beater :p Unless you were talking about rams, which I have not seen spawning or raising fry :D

I personally wouldn't breed anything in a tank that size, I think even rams can be iffy. They can breed in a small tank but I am not sure that they can live in it full time.

 i can easily get a grow out tank and i want something that i could have fun breeding and maybe break even with the costs. Honey gouramis can live in a 10g? a pair? are you sure :dunno:

Honey gouramies only grow to 2 inches and are peaceful. I'm deffinite they can live in a 10 gallon and I've bred plenty myself.

Not once the female has spawned, even though the male can be three or four times the size of the female, she can certainly harass a male to death, I have been lucky most of the time but did lose a fine Apisto Honglsoi male to his tiny mate!

Sexing honey gouramies is simple. Males have a pointier dorsal (generaly) and have a brighter yellow-orange to reddish color and, when in breeding condition, a dark blue-black underside while females are lighter brown-grey to pale yellow and are deeper-bodied with a more rounded dorsal. You may want to check the gourami forum for pics. :) Or a google search...

Breeding them isn't difficult but you need 2 tanks - one to breed them in/house/raise the fry and one to put the adults in when they aren't spawning. The only difficulty comes when trying to feed the tiny fry as they need very small food. Usualy the difficulty can be over-come by using infusoria (easy to obtain/culture), followed or in conjunction with liquid foods and then BBS or microworms (or, if you have no means of getting any, you can often feed very finely powdered flake) and finaly crushed flake and ordinary live/frozen freeze-dried and comercial foods. The fry will also need a covered aquarium to retain the heat/moisture in the air when they are beginning to develop their labyrinths and an airstone comes in handy to break the surface tension and help them take their first breaths.

It may all sound quite complicated but it's well worth the time and effort as they are such delightful and attractive little fish and most LFSs will by them off you readily.

You may find it difficult to find info on breeding honeys on the web but betta sites are plentiful and the same basic requirements apply (except for not needing huge grow-out tanks or to jar aggressive males and the actual mating/spawning isn't as violent :p ). Also remember to add the female first with gouramies, then the male, for breeding purposes.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions :)
