I want this tank. No I mean I REALLY want this tank. So I'm gonna redesign mine along the same lines. I know it will mean a change of fish and a lot of blood sweat and probably tears but it looks amazing don't you think? Anyway if I do it I'd have to source the wood and rocks from the beach I suspect. Assuming I did this what would I have to do to them to make them safe to go in a tank. I can't imagine you can put something that has been in the sea straight into a freswater aquarium? Also does anyone have any experience with black sand? I think it would look stunning but as nobody else seems to use it I'm wondering if theres a reason for that?

Dennerle sell a fine black quartz gravel which would acheive the same look. Here's a link http://www.newleafaquarium.com/dennerle%20.../substrate.html

I personally would not use any rocks/stones/pebbles from near the ocean as they will probably contain minerals that will leech into the water and raise pH and hardness (unless you're keeping alkaline loving fish i.e Malawis). As for wood, I would soak it in boiling water for a few days. Or buy the wood from your LFS.

The tank looks great, if a little 'dark' for my taste. HTH

You can also get that Tahittian (sp?) Moon sand from fish stores - it is black. It is rather expensive though -_- The tank does look quite neat. I'm with gf though - it's kinda dark and not my thing. My thing or not though, it is a well-done tank

Good luck with yours and keep us updated!

My Lfs isn't that impressive they don't have much in the way of decor so I'd have to source it elswhere?

Yeap deffinatly a brackish tank by the looks of things, you can see monos etc. in there.

Very nice though all the same, and if you can re-create something similar I cant wait to see it.

I have no experience whatsover with brackish water or fish so I'd be tempted to stay freshwater. How will I stop it turning into a green algae covered rock pool? I currently have a planted tank that kinda takes care of itself. Obviously without many plants I'd need to be more careful. Any thoughts I'm really keen to do this but I've only got "planted" experience?

Dang! That is a gorgeous tank! My tanks have always been well lit ... so it's quite awesome to see something so different. Do you happen to know what size that tank is?

I've always heard that brackish tanks were fairly simple to care for ... but I can't say from my own experieinces since I've never gone brackish and have always been kinda scared of fully salt water tanks. Or should I say the level of care you hear a salt water set up takes.

Just to put to bed the "what fish is in the tank" threads if you click the link to "THE TANK" I previously posted it tells you what they are. However this still doesn't help me!! Lol :dunno:
