Basically, i wanted tyo know if i could have a small school of neonsin my 64L (16 gal)
It has:

5 platies
3 Silvertip tetras
1 pitbull/bulldog/bristlenose pleco (coming soon)

The platies seem to be very good at eating their babies - none have survived for over a year!

you want to be keeping shoals of at least 6-8 with neons.
We have 12 and they are still picking at each other, we need more...

Please don't get a bulldog (5-6") or bristlenose (6") pleco for a tank that small, they should have at least 3ft of swimming space. A pitbull (Parotocinclus jumbo) would fit, but please make sure you know exactly how to tell the different species apart and don't trust the label in the shop.

If this was my tank, I would replace the 3 silver tip tetras with 12 neons. Both species are schooling (keep 6+) and I also think that most tanks look better with only one species of schooling fish.

Yes you could have a nice group of Neons in there :) There cool little guys.

+1

Although we have 12 neons and 12 lampeyes, they are great together.

To me the 16 would look fully stocked once the other 3 needed silver tips brought that shoal up to minimum. But the idea of replacing the silvers with neons would be great as a larger group on neons would go fine. Neons do best if the tank has aged 6 months (I still feel despite others not agreeing) regardless of cycling status. They really like nice soft, acid water with tannins in but they are tougher than one thinks if things are stable and will do ok on up into somewhat above neutral water (now watch someone tell me theirs are happy in pH 8.2  ) WD
