So i went into my lfs the other day as my friend told me they had a new breed of discus in. So i walked up to the discus tank and sadly there was no new discus :( but then i looked down and i saw they got in a freshwater moray eel. I had just taken down my 29 and my 15, and now im thinking of setting up the 29 again as he would not get along with the fish in my 55. So heres a video of the awesome little guy lol.

Too bad, well, next time maybe you can set one up and get an eel. But what do those things eat?

Thet eat frozen and live foods.

sadly there not in any way a fresh water fish. i believe they need quite a bit of salt even for brackish standards to survive longterm

You can actually keep them in freshwater long term if you weaned them off of brakish water slowly enough.

after seeing one myself in a shp i searched and searched the net and can find no proof that they thrive in freshwater

Yeah Im sure this has come out before - They are Brackish I used to see them in a small shop near me before it got into difficulties and had to close.

But that said if you are emptying a tank to make way for him why not start a brackish tank?

I am too attached to my discus tank sadly.... and im afraid a 29 gallon would be to small for this guy.
