I Think I Saved A Oscar

If nobody bought betta that were in the shelves, do you think stores would still stock them?

Well, yes they would. The profit made from those that do sell and other fish more than makes up for a few pence lost from a couple of dead bettas. A bog standard VT is hardly an expensive fish to buy and yet can be resold at quite a high price. Either way there's going to be little effect from simply not buying something; much more effect can be had by actually complaining to the shop and relevant personage. If indeed, the shop in question gives a stuff about that either. Which is unlikely.

I keep asking my self why rescue these fish, if the shop cant sell them then they will not buy more of them...... same with betta's

People keep buying poor betta's to save them so then the shop gets more for the same to happen. If they did not sell then they get fewer and hopefully treat them better!!!!! (i know a poor pun)

Is this me being just narrow minded?

Yup, this is a great point. One that is often not thought of. This is a huge problem with petshop puppies as well who come from horrible puppy mill type places.

Yeah i remember that too.

Grimmy doesn't exactly have a great past track record here, as far as i am aware he's just a kid too still living under his parents roof (so even if he has the money and space to have such a tank, doesn't neccesarily mean his parents will let him have one).
I'm not going to hold my breath on this recent revelation of him getting a 120gallon tank, however i'm not going to judge him imediately on this- at least for me, if he does get this tank in the near future, he will gain a lot of respect from me, but as i said i'm not holding my breath on this as he doesn't exactly have a great past record on stuff like this etc.

IMHO, the best way to go about buying fish is just don't get them if you don't already have the right tank set up for them, its no use saying "well i'm going to get way bigger tank for the fish in 4months time" or whatever, because life rarely ever goes according to plan- bills need to be payed, unexpected events turn up, accidents happen etc- in the end, the tank which you were supposed to get in 4months time is set back to 8months, by which time the fish has suffered etc.
And i say this stuff from my own experiences too.

IMHOGrimmy we all make mistakes particularly at the beginning of the hobby, but there's really no excuse for buying fish when you know they are really unsuitable for your tank or tank stocking or your abilities etc and you know you're not going to provide them with the good home they need anytime soon.
If you really do get a 120gallon tank within the couple of months, i'll take back everything i've lectured you about, but until then...You just gotta think more about what you are doing and have more foresight and stop making these mistakes which at the end of the day the only creatures which are going to suffer from these mistakes is the fish in your care. I know you make an effort to look after your fish well (and i'm sure you generally do), but a lot of your mistakes could have easily been avoided with a bit more foresight or thinking etc, which i am sure you are capable of (edit: if you are not sure about doing something, just do a thread on the forum to get more opinions/thoughts/advice on it, we are all happy to do that- a lot of issues many fishkeepers face in the hobby are not as black and white as they may initially seem at first, everything is worth researching or discussing etc). This hobby is full of responsabilities and you gotta start being a bit more thoughtful about those responsabilities, you're not a newb anymore.

I really don't like having to say stuff like this to anyone as i know it could be taken as hurtful or whatever, but IMHO it needs to be said.

Grimmy posts some of his questions, but whenever he does they are usually hard to understand and he doesn't listen well to people's replies, and I, for 1, get fed up with it.

Apparently, he is. Grimmy has the knowledge of newb with the goals of an experienced fishkeeper. Hopefully both will balance out soon. I dont really like putting people down because they get upset, so please take at least some of our advice into consideration Grimmy. Ask questions, but dont just ignore the advice if you dont like it.
