I hadn't ever been interested in dojo loaches, but I knew enough that they would get along with my other tank inhabitents. But, I just read that they're really cold water fish - correct?

I have a pond that is almost ready for fish, but I don't know if 1) they will be ok in the cold and 2) if they'll be eaten by the koi that I'm going to get.

Ugh.

For the moment, the tank they're in is unheated, but it's still about 82F, which is about 6F warmer than they apparently like it.

I dont know if the koi will pick on them. If you can mix them, try to get large or full grown dojos. Full growns are usually 6-8 inches. One of mine is 6 1/2 inches. I think in a pond they will grow to 10 inches (depending on size of pond).

I meant to say: "I have 5 of them in my 125G tropical tank, and it looks like they need to go into the pond. Mine are between 3.5" and 6" now.

They are actually 'coldwater tropical'. A pond any cooler than 70 F will be extremely stressful on him, and possibly fatal. 73 - 77 F is ideal. I have one in a tank with 2 guppies, 2 cory cats and a pleco so I compramised on 78 F. The koi will only pick on him if they are bigger than he is.
