Hi there i think that i may have NTD in two of my Neons. First a few days ago i noticed that one of my Neons was bloated and had like a small lump around the anus. Now i noticed that another is the same. The first neon has now lost most of its colour and no longer hangs around with the others, it stays in one corner at the bottom of the tank. Iv done some reading and it sounds like i have NTD, is this just me worring or do i have NTD! If so what should i do. Help much appreciated

Can you post your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Signs of ntd are.
Bleached out red stripe area, or a milky appearance in the red stripe region.
Some times the blue can go yellowish in colour.
Black linning around the red area on the fish.
Leaving the shoal.
Swimming oddly.
Being restless.
Lumps that go to points on the fish.
Bent spines some times.
Later stages of ntd popeye and dropsy.

Stats are

Ammonia: 0
Nitrates: 0.20
Nitrite: 0
pH: 6.8

Is the red stripe area bleached out.
Being bloated can be a sign of ntd, but if the red stripe area is vibrant its not ntd.
Is the anus enlarged or red and inflamed.

I had ntd about 4 years ago it wiped the whole tank out.
The neons showed all different symtoms.

The Red stripe has almost gone on one, the other has no colour changes, but the first was bloated a few days ago. I dont think the anus is red and inflamed, will go see now!

Edit: No there is no red or inflamed anus, but is breathing rapidly

The one that lost the colour does it look milky.
There also false ntd which is saddleback columnaris it will go along the back on the fish and down the sides to form a saddle shape it should look white and fluffy in appearance.
Is it possible to load a pic up of the sick fish.
Also check the other neons on the red stripe area to see if you can see a black linning around the tail region.

No it just faded so as the blue, dosent look fluffy, other neon are fine carnt see any black linning around the tail. Digi Cam not working so carnt upload a pic. sorry

I would destroy the fish that has faded I know it sounds awful.
I wish I had done it when my fish first got ntd and I ended up losing the lot.
The ones that you think have ntd I would destroy them, just keep an eye on the others.
You just get a jug of coldwater and add ice cubes till the water is freezing cold you then add the fish it takes about 30 seconds. Best to leave the fish a while in the water to make sure they have passed on.

I would only destroy them if you are very sure it is ntd.

Thats the thing i dont know if it is NTD, dont want to lose more fish than i have to

If water stats are good and yours are, the fish is pale in the red stripe area that looks bleached out Yes it is ntd.

Right Thanks for the Help :good: Wilder, much appreciated

Not good news.
Good luck with the rest of the fish.

Done, the fish in question are no longer with me, :rip: budys

Bless them R.I.P.
