I have a 10 gallon tank heated and filtered. I want to put in two dwarf gouramis and 5 glowlight tetras. The gouramis are going to be one male and one female so they don't fight and one will be power blue and the other red. I want 5 tetras because I read that 5+ tetras should be in a tank because they like to be in schools. I am going to be going to be buying silk and plastic plants because I also read that the gouramis "MAY" bicker if they were both male, but I'm going to be doubly sure they don't have a problem with eachother. will this work?

sounds ok with me...and im all about overstocking tanks for some reason...theyre all working good still.

id say thats about it...unless you can find a small shy algae eater. rubbernose pleco are very shy so they stay out of everyones way..max out at 4-5 inches...

if you dont wana deal with the pleco what about some amano shrimp too?? its good to have a clean up crew. to be sure they will last dumb a few ghosts in there and see if they survive for a month or so--not sure the gouramis will pick at them or not

If you can find a female dwarf gourami, I don't know that she will be red. All the ones I have seen are sort of silvery, in general they certainly aren't as colorful as the males, and they aren't carried generally by your run-of-the-mill pet store for just that reason. You may have to see if you can have them ordered in, or try to find a more specialized store, or Aquarium Society in your area if possible.

Can't give you any advice on the tetras as I've not kept glowlights.

A female dwarf gourami will not have the colors of the typical males that are available in my LFS. I have not seen a female since I got back into the hobby 4 years ago. As starry night said, a female will be the basic silvery fish color.

I've got blue female dwarf gouramis, they're quite easy to get hold of here, don't know about over the water though...

Sounds like a nice stocking :good: I agree with a small plec!

Just a tip for dwarf gouramis, it's better to keep 2 females to 1 male as one female may get harassed a fair amount, if you have two, then the attention is spread out.
