My wife was feeding them and the glass lid fell back down with a loud thud on top of the aquarium, needless to say it scared them pretty good. Now they're afraid to eat, it's been over 24 hours, hope they don't break out with anything. They ate a bit last night but were very reluctant to come anywhere near the top. She said they didn't eat much again this morning.

I'm sure they'll come around but I didn't think it would take this long, in the meantime, any advice?

dont let the wife feed your fish

dont worry about it :good:
try to spend a bit of time daily doing things around the tank,,,ie waving hand over tank the odd little knock of the cuboard,,,,,i find after a while they then become accostomed to the odd crash and bang :shifty:

They should be alright. It will just take a little bit of time for them to "get over it". They can go for a week or so with out eating, although I doubt it'll take that long for them to eat again.

---edit--
Oh and btw my 5 year old has chase my cichlids with a net before. Probably scared the living crap out of them. At least yours weren't being chased

Indeed my dog like use to scare my cichlids, but now it dosent really affect them. THe only time they really retreat to the rocks is if I jump up really quick. Otherwise they are all over the tank

they`ll be fine, honest, you should see what my kids get up to near the oscar tank, im not saying it wont have shocked them, but they will get used to the misses banging about. and grow to love her attention too :):)

shelagh xxxxxx

Thanks for the advice, she just loves those fish and felt horrible about it. I actually had to ask her if I could feed them once a day because she was feeding them in the morning and just before I got home for work. I'm like..."Hey we wouldn't even have these fish if I didn't promise you countless favors and jewelery, let me feed them once in a while!" lol...gotta love her.
