Just had to share some pictures of my Riffle shrimp, other wise known as Australatya striolata

There is a huge difference between the huge mature females and the smaller sub adults and males.

These ones have all adopted a large java fern "tree" as their preferred home since it is sheltered but has good water movement around it and they can feed in peace......except for when a pesky fish keeper comes along with a camera

Those are so beautiful! So big! Their fans look very interesting.
On average how big are yours?
I've read they can get up to 4 inches.

These girls would be pushing 5-6cm while the north Queensland males are still only mature cherry shrimp size so around 3cm.

I hope to be able to breed and raise them.

Are these shrimp elusive or do they come out and play often?

So far I have mainly only seen mine in the safety of the java fern tree, but I have seen video of them formed up in a search line roaming across the floor of a tank like some shrimpy emu parade feeding. Mine I suspect are behaving more naturally, hanging on to structure in the flow of water feeding. They may come out more at night when lights are out, they may even roam about the tank during the day but I don't see them because the tank is in the car shed and I am usually at work. Also the tank is pretty heavily planted and has all sorts of nifty hidey holes all through it.
