I rescued a ten gallon

I got one picture I now this is what conditions that they are in now. Just wait till I get threw... :D It wont let me post so go to the members pictures and I will show everyone what they look like now.

Well I counted and they were 587 guppies in that ten gallon tank. I have them all out of the water and they seem to be doing ok...I talked to the lady at the lfs and she wants half of them. So I still have most of them. But I will seperate them.

Holly flying monkeys, thats ALOT. I would have trouble believing even 10 guppies in a 10 gallon, but 587!?!?!?!?! Unbelievable...

I cant believe this lady. You offer to take a tank that she obviously doesnt care for and save the 587 lives that she doesnt care about it, and she expects you to pay $50 clean them out give them a good home and then wants half of them back. It may seem rude but id say that she cant take them back because the reason you took them in the first place was to save their lives. Good on you for taking them in though :D

don't think she means the lady she got them off, the lady at fish shop is gona take i think. but good on ya for saving them all. if we were closer we would have taken some off you as well. good luck in your reacue mission n keep us posted

No No I wouldnt give her the old tank. I am going to give the lady at the fish store half of them for supplies and things like that. I wouldnt even give her the pleasure of knowing if they made it or not. Which I am sure she dont give a big hoot if you know what I mean.

I am glad things are doing ok. I still think you are doing a great thing and would be happy to take them if I lived in the US, grrrrr!
I look forward to seeing more detailed pictures and see how they are doing. Please keep updating this thread!!

:p 587 is FAR from 1000+. Imo, the tank can last for another while because most of them are just fry. I've had 100+ guppies in a 10 G before, and there were around 50 0.7in only 3 died in 1 year, of course, i did have 2 10Gs at the time. Now they are all living peacefully in my 55G. You have time to get them a new tank, it isnt that urgent

She said there were atleast 20 adults, which is horribly overstocked for a 10 gallon, consider if you go by the 1" per gallon rule, you should only have 5 guppies in a 10 gallon. Even if they are babies, 500 of them could pollute that tank pretty quickly. And thats just sick, having 50 almost 1" fish in a 10 gallon for almost a year. Thats worse them how some petstores keep their fish.

I know this was terrible. When I took that picture the water was actually changed once. I didnt want everyone to see how bad it really was. I was afraid they would think it was mine../.

Are you saying you can do better? How long have u been keeping fish? how many have died in a year? it's all about skills, the 1 inch per gallon rule is just a rule of thumb, experienced fish keeper dont need that. The 3 guppies that died were female guppies..makes you wonder..maybe they died from the stress of giving birth.

I'm sorry I flipped out, but...500 guppies in a 10 gallon? You'd have to be nuts to not think that was a LOT of guppies.

Are you saying you can do better?
Ummm...yah, I guess considering I wouldn't put 50 guppies in a 10 gallon. :dunno:

How long have u been keeping fish?
About 5 years.

how many have died in a year?
not too sure...when I first started out I had some die when cycling a tank (didn't know anything about that) but now since I know about all that stuff I haven't had a fish die in quite a while.

Kind of sounds like my local petstores feeder comet tank -_- This is a very vague guess, but I'm pretty sure it's a 50 gallon or so, with.... oh.... 2000-3000 2-4 inch comets? It's completly sickening... But at least they have high filtration.

They even lower the water temperature so the fish don't have to eat more than once-twice a week and don't produce much waste. So sickening. I might take pictures for ya next time I go.
