so as some of you know i got a 20gal for my baby crayfish. today i just bought a stand and i got a 20 lb. bag of PETCO black sand for christmas. i just put the sand in (after seeing that it was very clean and the filter can get any ext a dust) and i filled it up and the filter is on. while filling it up i was going throught the most frustrating trouble i have ever had with fish- the sand kept sticking to all the air bubbles. managed to get the surface of the water and free, but the bottom still has all of theses little sand air balls. i tried patting and smooching and running my hand through the sand, which got some of the air bubbles out but there is still a lot in there. HOW DO I GET RID OF THESE???!?!?!?! has any one else had this problem????

It's a common issue actually which happens often with various types of sand. I just wait and they go away on their own. They are harmless and dissipate shortly...usually 48 hours and they are all gone.

i have sand in my 5gal which is play sand and it is finer. i have never had this problem before

i am trying to clear up the water now. which i hope i clears soon. i bet when the crays get in they will step on the bubbles which will pop some of them

The action of the animals will certainly help. Rinsing the sand first would have likely prevented the bubbles as they are likely the result of fine dust on the sand. Not harmful, but annoying.
