Hi! Im pretty new to aquariums and i'm trying to learn as much as possible. (correct me on anything if im wrong and forgive me if i dont know correct terms) I was wondering if a air bubbler is like a filter? I cant see how it is but my LFS was confused because i already have a regular filter and i wanted an air bubbler just because i like the looks. Now i believe i have a pregnant molly and the male will not leave her alone! Im considering moving her and i have a 20 gallon tank thats not in use but no filer. And im short on cash but i do have air bubblers i was just about to hook up. I guess my question is how can i make a "breeding tank" without a filter? Or how could I rig a safe one? I would hate her to get stressed to the point of death, i wasnt interested in breeding but i love her and want to do whats best for her. Also any other advise is welcome! thank you:)

An air bubblier in its purest form is not a filter in any form.
The filter contains media (sponges and or ceramics among others) that hosts Nitrifying bacteria, this is essential to the health of your tank.
A simple sponge filter can use a bubblier effect to draw water through the media so as to create a place to host the needed colony but you will need to CYCLE the filter of whatever sort for it to be usefull, and these take some time to establish..
Please read through the -beginners-resource-centerand then post any and all questions you have after

Thanks. I know about cycling a new tank, i was just wondering if i was missing something i guess. I can leave her in the tank shes in through the whole process im just worried about her getting too stressed. Also I dont think the fry would survive with my angels. Maybe It would be best to just let everything be this first time? Still the bothersome male keeps nudging her all over..

What size tank do you have and what fish do you have.

If you have space have you thought of adding a couple of female mollies so that the male can even out the love between them.

I have a 30 gallon tank with 3 dalamation mollys, all female, one creamescicle the male and one balloon molly who i think is female. Also 4 angels, two black loaches a red tail shark and one panda cory. And a baby pleco. I hope to upgrade within the next couple months.. I also have another 30 gal. thats at its capacity too. Feel free to comment on your opinion of the fish i have together also. The male just seems to be all about that one female tho. I dunno, she doesnt seem too aggravated but he pushing her every time she goes somewhere lol i feel bad.
