I Need Help!

Planning a new tank which will be 48x18x18 which i reckon is something around 260ish litres. What would people stock it with? I really like American Cichlids, but can't decide if this will be a mistake as i don't particularly like the aggression that goes with them. So, do i move a seemingly peaceful tank over from my 3ft 180 litre tank which comprises of:

1 Ellioti
2 Thomasi
4 Columbian Red Fin Tetra's
3 Platy's
2 Pitbull Plecs
1 L001 Plec

Or do i keep them in the 3ft and stock the 4ft with new fish? The 3ft is planted currently and although i would like the 4ft to be planted also i like the idea of LED lighting so plants wouldn't be a good option as these would be the cheapo LED rather than the more expensive ones needed for plants.

Other fish that i have around the house in various other tanks are

2 Jade Eyed Cichlids
3 Bronze Cory's
2 Bristlenoses

Breeding pair of Honduran Red Points

What would you do? If i decided to go with the unplanted option howshould i decorate it?

say, 8 peppered cories, 4 bolivian rams, hmm what else do i need to get rid of...


but that aside, go for something new, as they say "variety is the spice of life"


As for decoration, i was thinking the same with a plantless tank. Was thinking a baron wasteland look, sandy or fine sand colour gravel, few pieces of bogwood, large clump 1 end, a long rooty piece stretch across the other, with a couple small pieces in the middle

failing that.... go nuts! take the heater out and bang a fairground goldfish in there

Must admit i am feeling like this! Tank should be ready for Wednesday, but i can't really afford the substrate i want or the lighting until a couple of weeks time. lol. Also need to buy the wood to make the lid. LOL!!!

I have the option of a GT too for free from a member on here, but this would seriously limit my options as you mentioned in your thread. It is believed to be a female too, but will probably be more aggressive than i am wanting.

I would love an Oscar but i don't think the tank is big enough. Even if i bought a small 2" Juvi it would need a bigger tank within 8 months.

same, i'd love another Oscar, but until i get a definite answer on tank size i wont risk it.

Some judge it by tank length, others by volume. I have 120g to play with.

Would need to ship a few fish if i got an Oscar, not sure how the ellioti or jade eyes would appreciate it.
