I have gone backwards and forwards a million times with this, buying bettas, selling them, buying more, selling them - I am basically addicted to them, I have got about 15 males and about 30 females (ish) but I can't cope with them and having 2 toddlers to look after and a home to take care of and my working from home part time job too. But I want to keep my fish but I can't! I know nobody can wave a magic wand, but any words of wisdom or anything to make me feel better cos I am close to tears today with it all :(

and I thought I had a busy lifestyle!

I think you need time to yourself, even though that may not be the answer you are looking for. Just sounds like you are running around doing everything and having little time to yourself.

Try and make life easier on yourself, before keeping fish if that makes any sense.

Fish can create a lot of stress, even more so if life is stressful in the first place.

Have you tried the aquarium screen saver lol that may help with the withdraw symptoms of not having fish for a bit lol :good:

Having re-read this, I believe the word of the day is 'yourself'

I think this means having just 2-3 bettas and selling the rest and maybe even selling both my 25 gallon tanks my kids won't be babies forever, I can always go back to this, but I can't get my babies back can I (p.s. 'yourself' does not exist in my life right now, but it will one day I think lol)

you know, when I am having a really bad day, I often think of those who have nothing and/or are in a worse position, because no matter how bad things are, there is always someone worst off...I know this sounds very preachy, it is not meant to be, but, I know we all have bad times, and it is often hard to see where life is going, but you know, life has a way of working out.

also...do not think about your life starting again when your kids are grown up and have moved on...so to speak, your life is now, you just need to take time out and look after yourself more otherwise you will burn out!

once you pull things together - you will find time for your interests, sometimes, it also helps to say......phukit

ok, as a newbie to the forum, that may get me into trouble.....phukit...see, it helps lol

*hugs for mel*
It sounds like you're thinking on the right lines, keeping maybe a few bettas, so that you can cope with balancing them with all your other busy bits too.....that way you don't have to dispair that you can't have any.....it takes away some stress....and I'd agree with 8inary......some you time is needed....even if it's something small and silly, like a good long soak in the bath everynow and then with candles and chocolates or something (I know it sounds silly).....when I'm stressed simple things like a tiny bit of self pampering often goes a long way!

As for the bettas, I currently only have the one, but if I had the space, equipment and money I'd be like you and have looooads probably :p they're such great characters!

I hope you start to feel a bit more settled and happy soon!

awww hun....
you know in the future that when you do go back to it ill always have a few of finn's fry i can send ya! :)
eh?
you got ya kiddies to keep you company and many happy years with them to come you can come back to your second love once they're old enough to look after themselves im sure when you come back it will re kindle your love for bettas even stronger than before! :)

You know it does help, it's very true. Phukit indeed lol. I can always come back to this. It IS an addiction though, so now I have to try and break my habit! Must stop looking for bettas though, that's where the temptation comes in!

Aw Mel.

I'm in the same boat, a small child and every betta I see I want. So, I limited myself to exactly what I wanted to breed, rather than seeing a pretty boy and wanting him for no reason.

Definitely take some time out, even for an hour or so. Go for a walk and get some fresh air, if its not raining that is!

As everyone else has said, you only get to see you're children go up once - betta's are always going to be there.

Hope you feel better soon hunni, we miss you're crazy posts about betta poo! :hyper:

I buy Bettas on impulse. So I a trying not to go in the shops. I find with mine I try to clean one out a day which doesnt take 5 minutes as I keep a spare tank and use that. I dont get paranoid about changing their water so often as I used to, and I am sorry if you are going to shout at me but they are honestly healthy happy fish! :good:

Oh I will still come on here, it's my sanity to chat to you guys!
And believe me when I say I can't be betta-free I will keep some, just not the 16 males I have at the moment. At least I know they are going to be loved and cared for elsewhere. Even if I keep 5, that leaves me the weekends free for my kids and can change out 1 fish a day on the week days. Thanks guys, you been bubbly (that's what my 21m old says for lovely lol)

joins hands everyone and sing .......## always look on the bright side of life ### lol

you will figure it out mel, trust me

if you do sell your bettas you could try find homes near yours so you can still visit them without havid to look after them!!!
