I May Be Experiencing A Big Problem!

Well like I said when I called them they said its sort of a hit and miss kinda thing because they won't know if they can hold the fish until I call them a few days before and see if they have an empty tank :/

How should I about transporting them if I can't find a lfs to hold them for me?

If the LFS can't hold them for you,
tie them up in the plastic bags(like the ones you get the fish in)
put them in paper bag so no light gets through, it might get cold so maybe a heat pack if possible, put them in a box(preferably styrofoam) and take them in that.
How long is the journy from your apartment to your new place?

I don't know because we haven't found one yet. Do you think the lfs would give me a few bags to put the fish in, if not could I use zip lock bags and set the bags in a cooler with the lid on the cooler? What could I do for oxygen?

Bagged fish do fine for many hours, as long as they are kept at their needed temperature. Fish at auctions go 12 or more hours in bags, at room temperature.

Double bagging works best, and have a few spare bags handy, sometimes bags leak. Don't feed for 24 hours before bagging, they will produce less waste this way when in bags. Fill with 1/3 water, 2/3 air. Put them in a cooler, and close it up, as fish are less active in the dark. They will keep for hours this way at room temperature. If you have to keep them in a van or truck that is unheated, pick up some of those cheap chemical hand warmers to put in the cooler with them.

Empty tanks completely, gravel & all. Leaving some gravel in is ok if you are moving the tank across the room, you risk splitting a seam or other type of leak in the future if you move it any distance with water or gravel in the tank. Aquariums are not designed for this sort of stress.

Put the gravel in one bucket, keeping it wet. Put filter media in another bucket, keeping it wet also. If you have live plants, grab another bucket for them. Plants can be bagged as well, if you have more bags than buckets.

A seperate cooler mignt be a good idea for the plec you have if it is larger, bigger plecs are real good at poking holes in plastic bags. Just put some tank water in a clean cooler, and add the plec. Catching plecs with a net is sometimes tricky, as they can get hung in the net & injured. Put a piece of zuccini or some other veggie the plec likes in a sinking container & wait it out. When the plec goes in to eat, remove the container plec & all, and put the plec in the cooler.

The LFS get massive ammounts of bags in every week/month and will usually give you as much as you need with out cost :)

The pleco is only 4" to 5 " long could he still poke a hole in the bag? If so I have this container that is about 1/2 a gallon or more and has a lid on it that I could use to put him and poke a few big holes in the lid for him to sit in. I already know how to catch him, I'm going to get him towards the front of the tank then I'll gently pick him up with my hand and put him in the bag.
