and then i thought about the fish i'm going to put in there.

would angels and apistos be okay with drift wood?
i have a feeling they would but i figured if not i should take it out now before i get them.

also, what's a list of good live plants for angels and apistos? i want a few small tiny plants and a bunch of really tall plants that don't go out of control.

were did you get your drift
wood from

shouldnt be a problem, but have you soaked the wood before putting it in the tank? it releases a lot of tannins (especially in the first few weeks / months) so i would recommend letting is soak in a bucket to get the worst of it off, otherwise you will be doing lots of water changes (not such a bad thing for your fish, but can get a bit tiresome)

is the drift wood bought from
your lfs or was it from the beach
of river bank

tannins arent toxic
sorry if i was mis-understood - indeed they are not toxic, but its annoying when you cant see your fish through the tea-water!
Infact tannins can be beneficial to some fish...
So i find large water changes are required, purely on a selfish basis, as i like to see my fish!

Edit:- but more to the point, and Biffster is trying to ask - if its wood on the beach or the side of the road (?) it might be a bad idea. The shrink wrapped stuff in your LFS should be free from nasties

correct !!

I didn't think driftwood released tannins?. Bogwood releases tannins due being in mud for years but driftwood should be free from any mud shouldn't it?.

I bought driftwood from my LFS and it took about 2 weeks to get rid of most of the colour. Still there a bit.

i was just a bit worried
that it had come from of the beach
as sea drift wood as a habit of absorbing
salt while it is in the sea i have seen people
do this and wipe there whole tank out bog wood it fine :good:
i used to shot in the water butt out side and leave it
in there for a few months so the tanning's could leach
out

regarding what fish are suitable..

is there now enough room in the tank with this 'large' piece of wood?

if it is releasing tannins, this is an acid so check your ph before water changes to see the peek your waters ph is - and check this against the preference of the fish you wish to keep.

i got it from the back yard but i did let it soak for quite some time in the hottest water my house can produce without boiling it.
the tank looks great after the filter did it's job over night and there is more than enough room left, i actually want a bigger one, this one is pretty nice though.
