It is a Saddled Bichir (Polypterus endlicheri). I think they are the coolest looking bichir, and I love bichirs. I have a senegalus and an ornatipinnis. I was wondering if the saddled bichir would play nice with the others. Right now I have the two in a 75 gal. but I may be giving the senegalus to a friend. I live in America and was wondering if a saddled bichir is to rare to hope for or if maybe a mail order company was a possiblity. As always TIA.

This fish is definatly a future fish, but it would be nice to know where to find one. Also, I may start "designing" tanks for other people in the area. It might be possible to find someone to "house" the fish until I get out of college. Right now I am just amazed by the "little" fishy.

I know, I know, tooooo many " " 's. :*)

Any one want to rent the fish from me?

Maybe I should pay you rent. :fun:

I think I made this post was out of pure excitment of finding it.

Also, I do have the Ornate Bichir in a 75 gal. He is growing quite slow now that he has reached his adolecents. I wonder if the Saddled Bichir will grow at the same rate. If I get him small, maybe I could house him for 4 or 5 years. I know its fish taboo. But I'm always up to a challenge, especially financial (or so my bank account says so)

But I am also considering selling all my fish or "lending" them to friends while I'm at college and turn my 29 gal. into a planted tank for an apisto harem. Anyone want an almost breeding pair of Paratilapia polleni (magna)? Just $150. Just kidding. If I do let them go, I already have a friend that will take awesome care of them. He works at a fish shop (my fav.) and is about to start his own, and take the whole crew that works there with him. The owner is a real @$$. But that is a BIG if. But college does put a big strain on your pocket book.

I have never seen one of those guys before, looks pretty cool from what pics on the net I could find. I would talk to one of your lfs and see if they can special order it for you. That might be my next bichir...now you got me thinking about getting a new fish!! I am in college at the preset time as well, I know what you mean when you say that there is a strain on the pocket book!

My LFS has true Polypterus palmas palmas and Polypterus delhezi. Both are very cool and at a good price. The only reason I'm not getting one is because I'm thinking of getting rid of my 75 gal. I need some mulah to help pay for my other love in the fish world, planted apisto tanks. I will possibly keep my tank or get another large one later, but for now I'm looking to sale my 75 gal, so that means no more bichirs -_- But hopefully they will still be quite readily available when I get another large tank.

Can you say road trip? I'm only looking for about $150 for the tank, and it has a built in sump/ wet/dry filter. Good deal, I think. Or I could deliver it for $300. (don't like goin out of the South much, too cold *shiver)

WOW, I would buy that tank from you in a heart beat, but you live way to far away for me to come pick it up. I guess I'll have to pass :-(

Wow, I wonder what the ratio of college kiddies is on this forum is? I am also a college student at Lamar in Beaumont, Tx. I was just reading your comments and decided ahh what the heck, I will reply. I think I have the solution for you both. Since neither of you are willing to drive the whole way, you both could drive at least half. Where will that put you . . . How about Sturgis South Dakota or Colorado. I don't know make it fun. Summer is almost here. :p Oh, and when you learn how to make all your cool aquariums you can teach me I still want to do that too. Chat later, gotta study.

If you really want to sell your 75 let me know I will ask a friend of mine if she wants to upgrade from her 55.

Cool, my sis went to Lamar before she went to A&M because she changed majors. Also, I have a friend from Orange which is right near Beaumont (why is that so hard to spell?)

Yes I do want to sell it, but I don't know when my friend will be taking my polleni's off my hands.

I didn't catch the curve ball you threw me there. I guess that's what I get for reading too fast.

I haven't started on constructing tanks, mostly because I'm about to start working in the fish shop my friend is setting up, that means long drives to Houston every morning, which means getting up early, which means I will not be a happy camper. But, I do know quite a bit on how to do it. I think that my next tank, after the apisto tank, will be a brackish Mangrove for mudskippers. Maybe I should change my name to "Oddball-Freak"

Naah! Cichlids are still my fav. although I do like the oddballs. I guess they'll just have to take a close second.
