I Have A Problem!

I have a 75 gallon tank with 3 dinosaur birchirs(8in), a needle nose gar(10in), a angelfish and pleco(6in). So the other day I went to the petstore and bought a tire track or spiny eel(8in). According to the guy at the pet store the eel eats a rosy red minnow everyday at 10am. So the next day i try to feed him and theres tons of problems- either my gar or birchirs eat all the minnows first or the eel just hides and never comes out. My eels been in my tank for 2 days now. So what im asking is how can i get my eel to eat.

I had one a while back and I used to hand feed thawed out frozen jumbo shrimp. It was tough to get it to eat otherwise...

Hi there,

Hopefully your not feeding live fish.... (this is unethical and against the law).

That aside, these kinds of eels are best housed alone, or with others of their kind.

They like a subdued tank, with sandy/silty bottom they can bury themselves in, and very placid/peaceful tank mates, if any.

It will be difficult to feed in this circumstance, and really isn't suited to your tank...

If you really want to keep him in there, best option would be night/late evening feeds of shrimp, held gently infront of his nose (though if the other fish get interested in it and start pecking at it, he still won't feed).

Do correct me if I'm wrong OP, but didn't you only post last week or so asking if you were overstocked or not? I can't imagine an 8" fish is going to help with that.

Please don't feed live fish. You don't have to.
