Lately, every time I feed my betta formerly known as Red Dragon*, he hops out of the water and tries to take the pellet from my hand! Problem is, he isn't very good at it. Twice this week he ended up jumping right out of the bowl!

No harm done, but I swear he looks embarrased after I put him back in his bowl!

Anyone else got a betta that tries to do tricks like that?

*He WAS named Red Dragon, but I have since renamed him Dumbass. I think he's my favorite. lol

my plakat (Ming) has started to that too! he's in a divided 10G with a hood, so it's not much of an issue. I think he's starting to jump every time i enter the room :p

what type of betta is he? plakats are great jumpers IMO, and they should be covered, but all bettas can jump.

My little guy, "Special", tries to take a pellet from hand when I feed him. He hasn't successfully taken it, yet! His tank is always covered, so I don't have to worry about any accidents.

He's a regular run of the mill veil tail. One of the red ones with tjust the slightest bit of light blue/green in the rays of his tail fin. He does have a covered bowl though, but he gets a chance to jump out when I'm feeding him.

fishy does that too but only when he gets his blood worm thankfully he knows not to jump over the lid... its hooded and hes gotten his little mouth above the hood but because the water isnt as high as it should be right now he cant get up hehehehehehehe neways yea id say just watch out and try and keep your hand low when you feed him thats all i do... and if he misses and ur hand is low sometimes itll just knock him back in or hell bite... o well... yes they hurt if they bite... trust me!!!

I have my bowls next to eachother, two flare 24/7, literally, and the crowntail minds his own business, even when flared at. No jumping on my behalf, but I'd trade flaring for jumping any day of the week. :p

My betta Apollo, which is a veiltail, does the same once in awhile. Now, though, he's calmed down and stopped jumping, but expects to be petted when you feed him. No joke, he loves it when you touch his fins and wants more everytime you open the lid! He's funny like that... :hey:

i have af ew that jump out for their food :)

i have one veil tail that jumps as soon as i take the lid off his tank (lucky the lids there) when hes knows live worms are coming :D
hes always very hungry!

why is my betta sooo boooring he doesnt do any neat stuff like that... :(

oh god, i have a jumper. the first time he did that it scared the #### outta me, i dunno why cause its not like he's gonna bite my hand off or anything. now i have to feed him through the little feeding hole in the hood cause i'm afraid he will jump all the way out.

my old one use to jump during water changes and he jumped out onto the counter and i had to scoop him up and put him back in
