My fry have been eating tiny pieces of egg yolk, so I wanted to see if my adult swordtails would like a piece. Only the male ate one, I hope he won't get an indigestion out of it.
He seems fine so far. When he had the piece, he ran away with it, chased by his mate. LOL.
Even the fry seem to be bickering over boiled egg yolk.

Could my hoplo eat egg yolk too?

I know egg yolk was what they often used as fry food back in the day, but I didn't think they cooked it. Shouldnt have thought it would do much harm though.

I boiled them. I've fed my fry like 2 days ago with it, then again today. But this is the first time I gave it to an adult fish too. If it proves to have no bad effects on him, I might give my female some bits next time as well. Not sure about the hoplo though, he's too scared to move since I put the fry net in his tank so I didn't get to see him go for the egg.

I've used it; if you boil egg yolk it becomes kind-of crumbly in texture, which if you blend/whisk it, becomes a suspension of tiny egg crumbs rather than a dilution. The suspended micro crumbs are just about big enough for really small fry to eat. My rainbowfish fry were so small that newborn mollies could probably have eaten them for breakfast!

I'm glad the swords are enjoying their eggy treats!

Nothing wrong with feeding a hard boiled egg yolk to larger fish, I used to all the time. It's a great source of protein that's easily digested. I quit feeding it because of the huge mess my fish made with it, I'd have cloudy water for days.

Thanks for confirming back in the livebearer thread about the eggs. The fry seem to have begun their growth and only 4 days or so have passed since they were born. o_O

Just wasn't sure if the parents could be given these treats too. So far male seems ok / chasing his mate as usual lol. And all she cares about is to nip at the breeder net where her babies are in. X)

I'd only give one yolk ball per fish. Not sure how well it goes with catfish though.
And the fry get a few crumbs that they seem to fight over. Them ninja twins keep pushing their siblings away.

I drop a tiny bit in every now and then, all the fish go at it, not too much or the water goes a bit gross
