I went to my lfs last nite to get a few plants for my tank. So whilst I was there I thought I'd give him a little test. I have been told that I can't put angels in my tank with red eye tetras and green tiger barbs. So I asked him would I be able to put them in and he refused to sell me them and gave the exact reason I've been told. I have found a reliable source now. They aren't all bad see guys just got to find the right 1

Sounds good mate if in doubt ask here though, sometimes its not that they give the wrong advise is they belive they are giving correct advise or stuck in their ways, for example one lfs here will not agree a fishless cycle is better for the fish in anyway. while a fish cycle can work if done correct lets be honest its not best for fish, the owner is just old school and stuck in his ways and wont belive that you can cycle using ammonia lol

why cant you have an angel with red eye tetra ? i had them togeher for about 3 years, they ignored eachother always ? i think i might have quite a placid angel though, he doesnt really bother anybody. or do anything. or move.

Lol its not the angels I was worried about its the red eyes and tiger barbs they are as far as I'm aware fin nippers the red eyes killed 5 guppys so long finned fish I'm not goin to risk

Red eyes aren't nippers from what I understand, but tigers... they are seriously aggressive little fish. I know they get the "semi"-aggressive monicker but truthfully, there are few "community" fish that could be mixed with them. They are almost a species only type fish.

Red Eyes I class the same as Silver Tips, Columbians and Buenos Aires and King Blue Tetras etc, occasionally they are ok, especially in big enough numbers in a big enough tank... but as a **general** rule... they really are quite nippy.

Angels are something different, the tetras would all be ok, angels can be really nasty themselves...

The barbs i wouldnt trust by a long way...

My Red Eyes are very peaceful indeed. And i have also kept a group of 9 Tiger Barbs with 3 Angels with no trouble what so ever. But my Angels were fully grown so maybe this had an impact on the situation.

Angels can be very aggressive indeed, especially if kept as the only large Cichlid(s) in the tank with other smaller fish.

My lfs is a family run bussiness and they r always right on their info have never let me down before

Altho they have sold me to blue gourami and a fighter
Even tho i know tgey dnt normaly get on

My guys are realy good with each other and get on realy well

Is this a 'small' pets only sort of shop, or is it a chain pet store? I've found that the smaller, specialty pet shops are usually for the most part very reliable and passionate. Can usually be very trustworthy. If its one of the larger chain pet stores... I have found that it comes down to the person and theyre passion for fish keeping. I have a small time pet shop that i pop into every now and again, and theyre great, but they don't as large a selection as the chain store. Some ppl in the chain store have little to no idea about fish and they are just there to scoop out whatever you want. However... there are 2-3 ppl there who really know their stuff and have been quite helpful. It all comes down the person imo
