I had planted Vallis as background plants over 2 months ago. They got really huge and I had plants reproducing to top it off, that were as big as the original.

I bought 8 plants at around 10 inches tall when I bought them. I had over 20 now between 3 and 12 inches long. That's not counting the 8 plants I gave my girlfrienf last month.

These things reproduce like rabbits!

I threw most of them out today, keeping only 6 shorter ones. Around 6 inches tall. My fish have alot more swimming space now and the tank just looks cleaner. I had a few yellow leaves in there so I just kept the healthier plants.

I also gravel vaccuumed the back, which i wasn't able to do because of the plants, man that was dirty gravel. My 5 gallon bucket was full of brown water when I was done!

I also found a shrimp i put in last week. I guess he'll have to find a new home now!

I'm glad I did this. I was overdue! :D

Hi yvez9 :)

You are so lucky to have a tank where plants grow like crazy!

Why not talk to your lfs and see if he will buy your extra plants, or even take them in trade for other items you need? If you go to a chain store, they might not be able to, but you might find an independent dealer would be happy to have them. :D

Also find out if there's ever any fish auctions near you. A guy in my betta club takes his overgrown plants to auctions and gets anywhere from 2-10 dollars a bag

I never thought of that
The problem is I have no place to store them until I have enough to bring to stores. But it is a really good idea. I'll try that next time.

I just bought a pice of driftwood yesterday so I'll post a pic when I put it in!

Vallis sure does grow like mad, my few bunches had multiplied alot and grown about 4ft long on most peices.

I also have my cabomba i have to trim every 2 weeks.
I'll ask the guys at thefish store next tiem if they are willing to trade them for a few bucks.

Better then throwing it away

That's such a good idea - I hate throwing away my trimmings. Sorry to hijack slightly, but is there anything special that you need to do when taking cuttings?

I only have a few plants (2 amazon sword, I think, and 1 of something else kind of leafy...), the really leafy thing grows like mad. I've noticed that leaves that have fallen off / been nibbled off and are floating around on the surface, tend to develop what looks like roots very quickly - presumably I could litterally cut a bit off the plant, dump it in the sand and it would grow?

*A 'ding' sound is heard, and $ pictures appear over eyes*
