I Am Soooo Excited!

I just ment for buying fish online that I would have a couple of months before I would have to worry about shipping in extreme temps. We do see some temps at 32 or below but not usually untill end of Dec - mid Feb. Then the warm temp extremes would start around May an continue untill mid Oct. I should have been more clear, sorry about that. It was just in reference to when I could safely have fish shipped, that now would be the ideal time as it is not too hot and not too cold. But I am probably not going to buy on line anyway I am just too nervous to do it, plus I don't know enough about shipping fish to know what sources I can and cannot trust.

It depends on how they pack the fish. In this time of year they put in a heat pack and usually the shipments make it ok. I have shipped fish this time of year and had them make it. I wouldn't try it in December. No matter what the live arrival guarantee says, you still have to pay for shipping on replacement should an issue arise. Normally I would say that you can ship until mid November, weather permitting. It all depends on their origin and how the shipper packs (some shippers offer cheap shipping, but it does not always include a heat pack or breather bags.)

When I was shipping fish I used 24 hour heat packs and breather bags. The supplies cost $3 to $5 including box, heat pack, insulation, and breather bags. I usually ship out a small sample of food that the fish are currently eating to make the transition easier. The way I saw it was that I could either do it right the first time or make several attempts that cost me money every bad shipment. I opted for more expensive shipping

Your best bet for ordering fish on line is probably between late October and some time in April if you are doing it for delivery to SC. I am in IL and can only order from March to maybe 1 June and again in October and early November. It is almost too late here now because temperatures are regularly too cold for a box of fish to sit in the mailbox during the afternoon until I get home. I have had fish delivered this time of year but had to use FedEx instead of the postal service. Only order fish on line on Monday or Tuesday so that the fish don't end up hanging out in the post office for the weekend.
