I lost several fish early in the morning.
most of the joy of fish keeping is going away for me.

Sorry to hear that, it can be very disheartening when that happens

Maybe we can help you figure out the cause. What fish did you have, what was your water hardness, how long was the tank set up and anything else you can share might help us figure out the issue causing the loss of fish.

Summarising the last few posts:

Size of tank - volume and dimensions
How long it's been set up
Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels
Hardness of water
Temperature of tank water
Fish in the tank - both still living and those which have died.

For example, it could be the fish which died needed a different hardness. Or some fish needed a different temperature from others. Or some fish just don't get on with others.

everyone loses fish at some point...
maybe you tried something new because you wanted to give it a try...
maybe something that stressed the fish and puff...dead gone...
what you should NOT do is get demoralized because of it
fish die...so what? you make mistakes and you learn from them
that's why you always start with relatively cheap fish and progressively move on to harder things or more beautiful fish
I'm pretty sure everyone started with a gold fish or something cheap because their parents didn't want to spend 200$ on a single fish
on a fascination that their kid had which might just pass over in a month and then they (the parents inherit the tank...)
just be patient and keep on learning xD
no fish keeper is wise enough to not learn something new all the time xD
