Has anyone got one and are they any good?

Set my tetratec ex1200 up with one the other week. It works perfect and there's no unsightly heater in the tank. Cost £30 of eBay.

Buy one. Just make sure the hose from your external filter is the right size

Hello,

I have 2 of these heaters, the 200w to fit 12mm pipe, and the 300w to fit 16mm pipe. I have been using them for around 12 months and I cant fault them at all, Great bit of kit.

The best thing about them is that when used with your external filter you don't need any unsightly equipment in your tank that will spoil the look.

:good:

i dont have one but i will be getting one soon. been having a good read about them and cant find a bad thing said. i need a new heater shortly and would love not to have another one that has to sit inside the tank.

I have the 300 watt hydor on my 5 foot 450 litre and its excellent. Keeps the water temp spot on. I too have it connected to a tetratec ex1200.

I used to need 2 300 watt internals before but only need a single one of these as the warm water gets pumped around the tank.

Plus as Percy said... No more unsightly heaters in the tank :)

i am interested in an external heater myself!

livewire has given me some sound advise on a couple of threads so far so if you can help again my friend i would again very much appreciate it.

i'm wondering what sort to go for? i am new to this game (well size of tank) but i fancy a really nice clean, nice and uncluttered tank. my new tank is going to be here in a week or two (39x17x12" - 140 litres so am told).

i am going to be buying a fluval 305 external filter, ive just purchased an interpet av4 air pump (which i'm going to be attaching 2x 18" air stones for the back of the tank) but wondered if anyone could help me or advise me on an external heater.

ive purchase this piece of furniture for my tank to sit on (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120923324213) and it looks beautiful, it must do as the missus is happy with it :) (so bonus points there) and ive explained to her that all my fishy items will be hidden in this unit ie: "not on show" :) (double bonus points)

any help would be very much appreciated.

thanks,

mark

You should probably repost your request under a new thread so the subject line will relate to your question. Good luck with your new setup!

Not sure on the furniture but a hydor 200 watt external heater will be fine for that tank. General rule is 1 watt per litre :) search google for 200 watt hydor external heater. I paid £36 new and delivered for mine but that's 300 watt so a 200 should be slightly cheaper

i have 2 on both of my tanks!

one of my filters uses pvc pipe, and it connects great. However, my main tank has a fluval 405 on it, and i had to resort to cable ties to hold the rubber ends on (i couldnt get the corrogated pipe to stay on, so had to get the fluval connectors!

aside from that, they have both beenw orking great for a few months now :)

is this in reference to my setup?

Yes it was for your tank :)

No probs :) if I were you if you was looking to get a 405 I'd get a tetratec ex1200 instead. A 300 watt hydor external heater will go straight onto the pipes of the 1200 too with no problems. The 200 watt version wont fit though as the pipes are too wide. I paid £89 each for my ex1200's (I have 2 on my tank) and they were brand new and delivered.

Iv had a fluval 205, 306, 406, fx5 and an all pond solution ef2000+ and out of all of them I find the tetratec ex1200 by far the best. Also cheaper than the 406 :)
