How much should I be feeding my betta? First of all, I should say that he is a very picky eater and won't touch anything other than freeze-dried bloodworms. I've heard not to give him any more than he can eat in 2 minutes, but he gobbles up a pinch of worms in 20 seconds flat. Also, every time I come near the tank he goes to his feeding spot and stares like he is waiting for more food. Right now I'm feeding him about four times a day which seems excessive. BTW, he doesn't look fat or anything.

I would say just twice a day but that is just how I am and they will always be "hungry" but not fully eat them

I feed mine morning and evening. I was told not to give them freeze dried food????? Mine have a real mix: tropical flake and floating pellets (for the ones in the community tank), betta flakes and floating pellets, live daphnia and live bbs. Also frozen daphnia and frozen bloodworm. They don't seem to mind what they eat! They also love nibbling on the plecos algae pellets!

Bettas are absolute pigs and will in many cases eat themselves right into some pretty seious health problems. You should only feed them as much as would fit in their eyeball (that is how big their stomachs are). With freezedried or pellet food.it is easy to overfeed as they expand (rather large as well). Always a good idea to soak these foods in a bit of tankwater to soften a bit before feeding. Constipation is a very common ailment with bettas and can be deadly if its not corrected quickly( and can lead to swimbladder issues among other not nice things). It really is best to feed once a day and give some peas oncd a week or so. Also fasting a day a week to "clean them out". Most will always beg for food. Its up to us not to give in and potentially harm the piggy bettas. I certainly recommend cutting back on the freezedried food.
All the best
cheers
