What's the size of the tank in gallons.
Just looked at your profile the tanks on the small side for three clown loaches.
Plus there skinny desease to worry about adding a new loach.
I wouldn't bother to be honest.

Loss of weight or "skinny disease" is also quite common in Clown loaches. Typical symptoms are loss of weight and behaviour known as "knifeback" even though the fish is acting and eating normally. This sickness is more difficult to treat, it comes from a parasite organism (spironucleus) in the intestines of the same type that is thought to cause the so called "discus disease". I have successfully removed this disease from newly imported fish by using Spirohexol from JBL in the form of tablets. I have taken one tablet and crushed it and dissolve it in as little water as possible. I have then used discus granules which have been soaked in the solution. It becomes like a thick porridge after a short time when the food has drawn in the liquid. I then feed this to the sick fishes, after a week it looks like the sickness is gone. For the best possible effect do not feed with any other food. Flagyl (Metronidazole) also helps fight against this sickness but at least here in Sweden it is on prescription and can be a little difficult to come by.

Apart from this Clown loaches are not more susceptible than other fish, the above sickness usually occurs in fish that have been stressed during transport or subjected to other stress factors like cold water or poor aquarium hygiene. Do not buy fish that look emaciated! Well looked after fish are seldom sick. To quote my friend Elisabeth Hallberg; "the best way to avoid sickness is to keep the fish healthy".

With a 47 gallon I would think your best bet is to take the 2 clown loaches back and get 5 yoyo loaches! They don't grow as big +/- about 6" when full grown vs a clown's 12+. However, as you mentioned, I would wait until your tank is fully matured and you are no longer having any disease or problems!

i dunno wher u gor skinny desease from :S aint got that my loach are fine atm :D the main rpoblenm i had was an algae boom what is comming under controll now and had 1 rainbow fish die :S

thing is with my clown loach i have come very attacked and am gonna use them to persuade my parents to let me get a bigger tank for them :D ther fine atm tho as its a 4.5ft long tank and 14" wide so they have enough room to swim whilst ther small

tho i was thinking of getting a couple of yoyo's aswell

Skinny desease is quite common in clown loaches.
I wouldn't add anymore till you get a bigger tank for the clown loaches.

"Skinny disease"....? I've never had that problem in any of the 20+ clown loaches I've had. Just don't buy ill fish in the first place, buy nice plump looking, healthy fish and you will not have a problem with so called "skinny disease".

Clown loaches need space to swim, just going to stress them out.
It's up to the owner if she wan't another one then it's her decision to make.

The OP is male.

Clown loaches grow slowly and as the OP suggested he was going for small fish, personally I'd add 2 or 3 more. Then when they get to a certain size re home them. 47g is a fine size for small clown loaches to grow in.

I'd be more worried about ich than "skinny disease" as well.

The link you posted Wilder, wasn't exactly great information on clown loaches in my opinion as well.

I find that one of the best sites on clown loaches.
Do a search on skinny desease it's on most sites.

Aren't you running a UV my fat fish? If so they would be a good help to stop ich, though if you could quarantine the new clown loach with the UV filter on the quarantine tank it would be great. But yes, ich is a parasite that does spread.

What experience do you have with clown loaches Wilder?
