Huge Discus Picture

I was browsing Discus pictures on google and came across this picture. It's some Discus breeders website, but those fish look HUGE. Maybe it's just the picture, or maybe they are Severums. Not sure...

3ndl3r dont you read? Hes in the middle of a water change. Its written right on the picture. Those are definetly big discus. But there really isnt anything to give us scale so its hard to say exactly how large.

It looks good to me. Thats what discus need. Big water changes.

and the fact that light slows down in water makes it look shallower than it actually is!

Even though light is slower in water making it look shallow, shurely it doesnt make discus lie on their sides too? and daily? poor fish.

Discus sometimes tilt to their sides when they are scared/stressed. Might be something they picked up to blend in, in the wild.


Could it be shallow enough they cant fit upright though? Looks like it to me...

water changes are good but that must be a 97% or something water change. You can see from the sponge filter the water level is only a couple of inches!!! scary if thats what he does everyday!!!

thats what most asian breeders do every day, sometimes more often....& the discus dont give a toss about it. When I can I do it myself, especially if using medications.

If they were stressed they would thrash about & they never do as long as they are not flat on the bottom

Well, I think that the results speak for themselves. Look at how big those discus are. If they were stressed out they would be dead. Not amazing. Now look at my discus. The biggest ones are barely 6", my smallest nearly 4 after 8 months in my care. The result of being raised by me. A person who didnt have the patience or time to raise the fish the way they should be. The way the guy who owns the fish in that first photo did. If I could do it all over again I would do what this guy did given the time, and I would probably have way better looking fish because of it. Barebottom, huge daily waterchanges, lots of feedings = great fish. Any other way and the best you can hope for is mediocre, and thats if you're lucky.
