Hows This Tank?

I think its a neat little set up. The only thing I would add would be some sort of top. I have heard bettas like to jump... Other than that imo I think its great!

im a mechanic, i work on cars, fabricate things all day, i dont think a top would be too hard to conjure up.. :good:

Thats way to small for a betta. If your only planning on getting 1 betta, why not invest in a 2.5-5 gallon?

Hi Sean
In my opinion thats too small. Its only 0.9 imp gallon. There are very few betta keepers who would house them in anything less than 2 imp gallons.

how about getting something like this? its still pretty small and shouldn't take up much space on your desk

or this

or this (i know its 2 of them but they are a good size for a betta and there may be other similar tanks on ebay or elsewhere as singles)

or something slightly bigger, but still not huge

Its not to small for a betta!! I have my male bettas in a 2.5 divided tank which works out to be 1.25 gallons per betta. I would actually keep one of my bettas in that neat little set up. I would go out and get it! Your betta will be thankful to have that space vs a tiny cup :)

But not thankful with that tiny tank vs a 2.5gal+ tank. :good:

I agree, roomy by comparison to a cup doesn't translate to being a good environment for a betta! Unless you have a tiny desk, it won't take up much more space to get a tank that a betta can be happy in, with enough room to behave naturally and look it's best. Cubic volume doesn't even have to translate into an increased footprint, but even if it does, it won't be much more.

Please get a bigger tank, even if it means a bigger desk!

Hi Sean
Just one thing that i thought of, you say you're a mechanic, does that mean there will be lots of oil/fuel fumes? Bearing in mind that bettas are surface breathers.

Hi again
I think this is where there is a difference of opinions between the USA/Canada and the UK.
There is a vast difference between ebay.co.uk and ebay.com. .com is littered with tiny water vessels being sold as betta tanks. There are a few that pop up on co.uk but but not in the same quantity as .com.
Anyway, its much harder to keep a fish in a small tank. The water parameters change quicker for a start, and if you dont keep a strict check on it, the levels can soar.
It may be corny but, do you want your betta to survive or thrive?
