How To Transport Fish In The Post?

Just wondering how I would go about posting livestock through parcels? Is there a transportation type bag that I can buy?

Hi just buy strong fish bags, double bag the fish with 1/3rd water to 2/3rds air ensuring fish is completely covered which ever way bag is turned, wrap the bag with newspaper and bubble wrap then place in a cardboard box with more packing material around the bag making sure it cannot move around in the box then tape the box up well and wrap in brown parcel paper with fragile tape on the outside, what fish will you be posting out of interest?

Your lfs can probably give you some of the fish bags that they use to put the fish in, it`s much safer to double bag them too. Once they`re tied with plenty of air in them you can use the polystyrene boxes that the lfs use to put the bags into (they may give or sell you some if they have them). Depending on how cold the weather is depends on whether or not a lot of people use heat packs.

Always, always post using a next day service be it Snail Mail or another Courier. I personally would never post or allow a seller to post on a Friday as if a delay occurs the fish end up stuck in the system for a whole weekend and that`s not good.

There`s probably other members who could advise you better than I though.

Dwarf Puffers, I need to see if my LFS will take them.

They need to be split up (5), started to fight among each other

Working for Royal Mail as I do, I can tell you that your parcel of live fish will get no different treatment from any other "special delivery" (which guarantees an attempted delivery by 1pm the next ay, providing you beat the collection deadline from the post office you take the parcel to) parcel. I have read on forums, but cannot confirm, that Royal Mail does not happily transport live animals (although many people use this method and it usually reaches the destination with fish still alive).

It will no doubt cost more, but for the sake of the fishes' welfare, consider using a courier like APC, who are licensed to transport animals in a careful manner. "VickiandKev" who are catfish breeders, regularly use them, amongst other.

That's a shame, they must be males I have 3 lovely little things in a 60l heavily planted, I also think I have 3 males as they are often posturing to one another and chasing but without doing any damage though they are not mature yet so it will probably get worse, do you only have the 5? are they in a large tank with plenty of plants? as this can diffuse the aggression as it breaks their line of sight, if mine get worse I can split them up into other tanks. How far is your lfs? I would be more inclined to take them there than attempt to ship them if you can.
