Ok,I've had a pond with a running filter since the start of summer and it is built up with lots brown(and green stuff)Is it possible to somehow transfer the bacteria I assume are there to a new 40 gallon fish tank I'm setting up?If so,how. :good: Any help is appreciated!

from what I understand - squeeze the gunk out onto the media of your new filter or better still, if your filter has room for it, put the used media inside.

Would for sure be a source of bacteria but I might be hesitant to use it not knowing what critters or other microscopic entities might be present.
Would be perhaps better if bacteria could be secured from a friends aquarium?

For some reason I can never seem to hold it in my head what the other organisms are that we are typically concerned about being introduced from pond filter media. My recollection is that there may be a number of things we don't want to bring in but the two species of autotrophic bacteria are the same. Here is yet another chance for me to hear the info if one of our pond people happen on this...
