How To Set Up A Fluval 3 Help

Hey guys, right i bought a 4ft tank earlier today, Came with a fluval 3 filter, now my previous tank has an elite filter so not a clue how to set this one up!, Its got two parts to it!? and tow plugs i am a noob at this lol,
The sponges are filthy and the tank has been shut down for 3 weeks so where do start thhanks

Hi

Bit confused? A fluval 3 is an internal power filter with one plug. Just put new filter pads in, stick it in the tank and plug it in Then start your cycling.

Lol right well im confused because i have 3 things that all say fluval on 2 with fluval 3 and one with fluval 4 LOL! And there like little turny things and buttons and stuff on the filter im gunna cry LOl

Ha ha.....It sounds like you have 3 different filters. If so you could just use 2, at either end of the tank. Do they look like this

right i've got one of those, the fluval 3 plus, an interpet filter which is attached to the light and the heater on one control box thing,,

And a fluval 4, i dunno why i got all these lol they came with the tank.

the hood is brand new not with the tank, no name on tank,

Is ther anything specific your trying to get from the make?

I dunno if this combi thing is any good its a algarde powercentre?

okay i've now establilshed the interpet filter is a PF 3,

I would use the fluval 3 & 4 at either end of the tank. Just replace the filter pads as the old ones will be of little use after 3 weeks of inactivity. I say this because Fluval are a good make and parts are easy to come by

keep the Interpet as a spare

The algard thingy sounds like one of these

Its just a thing to keep the cables tidy.

You can wire in the heater and filters, so when you do water changes its easy to turn them off.

So.....I'd give it all a good clean with fresh water, replace the filter pads, and get it cycled

Right i'll do that then, Yeah i have a 2ft tank thats been running about 3 months, with a fair few fish in, rigth i have carbon foam pads or carbon filter pads, white and black, which ones should i use sorry to be a pain!

The white ones will be fine In your other tank, what type of filter do you have? Just thinking you could pinch a small piece of filter material from it to seed your new one

It has a stingray elite 15,

right sorry to go on, But i've got a problem now, the fluval 4 has no spare sponge, but i do have spare for the interpet and the interpet is already wired into the cable tidy thing so i will use fluval 3 and interpet, just as simple clean out the interpet and change sponge and off it goes?

Theres no problem with the interpet one I use the mini ones and they work fine. So it will be fine.

I dont think you would be able to pinch enough filter material from the elite to help the new filters, whilst keeping the elite stable. So guess it'll be the normal cycling route.
